Attack comes in wake of arson that killed Palestinian baby overnight; Hamas calls for demonstrations in West Bank leading to clashes with police.
Two Israelis were fired upon from a passing vehicle in the West Bank Friday afternoon while driving to Jerusalem, just hours after Hamas called on Palestinians to take to the streets in protest against an attack in Duma overnight when a Palestinian baby was burned to death in a fire suspectedly started by Jewish settlers.
Neither of the Israelis were harmed in the attack, but the vehicle was damaged by the gun fire.
Yona Betzalel, one of the Israelis traveling in the car, said the gun shots had come from a vehicle passing in the opposite direction. "We heard gun fire. The driver stopped immediately; neither of us were hurt. I pulled out my pistol and the driver pulled out his rifle and we ran at the car that had fired at us. I fired in the air and the driver shot at their car."
The duo was apparently unable to stop the vehicle however, and IDF troops were rushed to the scene to begin searching for the perpetrators. A suspected act of arson also occurred near the Jewish settlement of Yitzhar in wake of the attack overnight that killed 18-month-old Palestinian Ali Dawabsheh and put his parents and brother in critical condition in the hospital.
Two fire trucks were brought to the scene to combat the flames. Additional clashes and protests erupted in the West Bank Friday, giving rise to intense fears of further escalation. Riots first began in Jerusalem where Hamas had already declared a "Day of Rage" following clashes at the Temple Mount. The Palestinian organization based in Gaza then called on West Bank residents to demonstrate in response to the Duma attack.

No soldiers were reported wounded in the incident.
One police officer was lightly wounded by broken glass from a bottle thrown at security forces in the Old City of Jerusalem alongside rocks and other objects. One Palestinian was arrested.
Several young Palestinians threw rocks at the entrance to Qalandiya, just north of Jerusalem. Israel border police responded with tear gas, dispersing the crowd.
In the Isawiya neighborhood in East Jerusalem, border police clashed with dozens of Palestinians who threw fire bombs and stones at security forces. The rioters were met with riot-control measures and pushed back toward the center of the neighborhood.

A Palestinian youth was assaulted by an Israeli soldier as he was crossing Jabara police station to cross into Hebron, for simply wishing the soldier a ‘good day’, the Palestinian detainees and ex-detainees affairs committee reported Wednesday.
The committee said, according to WAFA, that after Naser Jaber, aged 22, got his identity card checked by an Israeli soldier at the police station in order to allow him to cross into Hebron, Jaber wished the soldier a ‘good day’, when the soldier stopped him immediately, asking him, ‘Am I your friend to wish me a good day?’ The soldier then smacked Jaber on his chin and on the back of his head with his riffle, causing him serious cuts and fractures in his chin and jaw, as well as an intensive internal bleeding in his head.
Jaber was then detained and left to bleed for two hours before transferring him to hospital for treatment. He was taken to Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital in Jerusalem, where he received medical care. Jaber was then transferred to Etzion Israeli jail in Hebron, however, the prison administration refused to take him due to the severity of his health condition. He was taken back to Jabara police station and back to Etzion jail shortly after.
Jaber told the committee that he has not been provided with any additional treatment despite of his bad condition following the assault; he said that he suffers from severe pain in his head, a high fever, and walking problems.
Incidents of violence by Israeli forces and settlers against Palestinians, including children and women, have regularly been reported, either during Israeli arrest operations, home searches and raids, violent suppression of peaceful demonstrations, or while serving jail sentences in Israeli jails.
Many Palestinians have been injured or shot dead on sight for allegedly committing assaults against Israelis despite the fact that they posed no threat to the lives of soldiers.
In December 2014, a Palestinian woman in her early twenties was shot and seriously injured by the Israeli soldiers who opened fire on her for allegedly stabbing an Israeli settler near Bethlehem.
In April 2015, a youth from the village of al-‘Arqa to the west of Jenin died of critical injuries he sustained after being shot by Israeli forces while he was tending his land near the separation wall. He was identified as Mohammad Morad Yahya, 21.

A blast targets the outskirts of the Lebanese border town of Koussaya, July 29, 2015
At least six people have been injured after an Israeli drone attacked the base of a Palestinian group in east Lebanon.
An unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) belonging to Israeli military targeted the base belonging to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command (PFLP-GC) near the Lebanese border with Syria on Wednesday, the Lebanese newspaper the Daily Star reported.
Abu Imad Ramez Mustafa, the PFLP-GC’s spokesperson in Lebanon, confirmed that the Israeli drone targeted the group's base in the Zahle district of the border town of Qousaya.
Mustafa also described the Israeli regime as the avowed enemy of the group.
“It was simply because they are one of our primary enemies.”
The Wednesday's strike caused a large blast, stirring panic among the residents.
Also in August 2013, an Israeli warplanes bombed a PFLP-GC base south of the Lebanese capital Beirut.
Earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli drone strike reportedly killed at least two members of the Syrian Armed Forces in Syria’s strategic southwestern province of Quneitra, located on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights, according to Lebanon's al-Manar TV.
However, the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said an Israeli plane had hit a car, killing two men from the Lebanese resistance movement Hezbollah, and three men from pro-government popular committees in the Druze town.

The three killed militants.
Lebanese media claims IAF attacked a vehicle on the outskirts of Quneitra in the Syrian Golan, killing three pro-Assad militants; PFLP claims Israeli drone attacked arms depot in Bekaa Valley.
Three pro-Assad militants were killed in Syria, and a weapons warehouse attacked in Lebanon, in two separate incidents on Wednesday, both of which were attributed to Israel by a Syrian army official.
"As part of its support of terror organizations, an Israeli aircraft attacked a civilian vehicle near the village of Hader at the outskirts of Quneitra at 10:45am. As a result, three civilians from the village were killed," the Syrian army source told Syria's state news agency, SANA.
"In addition, enemy planes attacked one of the bases of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on the border between Syria and Lebanon at 3:15pm. As a result, six militants were wounded in different levels of severity," he added.
Israel allegedly conducted an airstrike in the Syrian Golan Heights, killing three militants from the Popular Resistance Committees, a group loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad, according to a report on Lebanon-based Al Mayadeen TV.
The Hezbollah-owned Al Manar channel claimed that an Israeli drone conducted the attack in the village of Hader, on the outskirts of Quneitra, killing two people.
A reporter from Al Mayadeen in Damascus said that the attack was done at around 11:30am at the southern entrance to the Druze village Hader, on the Israeli-Syrian border.
Syrian opposition officials in Quneitra said on social media that in addition to the three killed PRC militants, there were Hezbollah militants in the vehicle as well. According to AFP, a total of five people were killed in the attack.
Arab media claimed the three killed PRC militants are Mohanned Said Barakeh, Wassim Badreya and Nader al-Tawil.
The IDF refused to comment on the reports, but earlier reports in Lebanon also mentioned IAF sorties in the Bekaa Valley.
In a separate incident, the pro-Assad Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which is led by Ahmed Jibril, claimed that an attack by an Israeli drone caused explosions in a weapons warehouse in the organization's camp in the Bekaa Valley.
The PFLP claims that six of its men were lightly wounded in the alleged attack in the al-Qusayr mountains range.
Hezbollah-affiliated media denied this was an Israeli attack.
The official Lebanese news agency reported that the explosions occurred as a result of spillover of two rockets from the fighting across the border in the Syrian city of Al-Zabadani between Assad forces and rebels. The Lebanese news agency also claimed that one PFLP militant was killed and six others were wounded, one of them seriously, while two vehicles were destroyed.
Several airstrikes have been attributed to Israel over the past few years, the last one in Syria in January killing Jihad Mughniyeh, the son of Lebanese terrorist Imad Mughniyeh, Hezbollah's commander in the Golan Heights until he was allegedly killed by Israel in Damascus in 2008.
Reports last April suggested that the IAF had attacked targets in Syria, but it later emerged that Syrian rebels were responsible for the attacks.

Hader borders the line separating Syria’s side of the Golan Heights from the Israeli section, occupied since the war of 1967.
The Druze town has been witnessing clashes between militants and members of pro-Syrian government groups in recent weeks.
The attack in Syria on Wednesday is not the first to be carried out by Israel.
Back in January, an Israeli attack claimed the lives of six Hezbollah fighters near Quneitra.
The Tel Aviv regime has carried out at least five airstrikes against the region over the past year.
Along with Syrian forces, Hezbollah fighters are fighting ISIL and other foreign-backed militant groups, which have been operating in Syria against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad since March 2011.

Halayqa’s 16-year-old son Mohamed was subjected to exhaustive interrogation, a few weeks after a similar break-in by the IOF troops left him wounded on the Eid Day.
The mother added that the Israeli occupation soldiers rummaged into her family home for the sixth time in less than three weeks.
She said the earlier break-ins culminated in the abduction of her two sons and the wounding of another.
Prisoner Halayqa, serving a 22-year prison-term, has been incarcerated in the Israeli occupation jails since 2005.
Meanwhile, an Israeli intelligence unit stormed a lodging housing Palestinian workers in Kafr Kasem area and nabbed the youngster Fahmi Abdullah Halayqa, 24.

The Joint List of Arab parties at the Knesset has warned that the Israeli government's intents to divide the Aqsa Mosque spatially and temporally between the Muslims and Jews would lead to a religious conflict and a bloody war in the region.
This came in press remarks made by Knesset member Ayman Odeh who visited along with other Arab members on Tuesday the Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem.
Odeh affirmed that the attempts by the Israeli government to turn the political issue in Jerusalem into a religious conflict over the Aqsa Mosque between Muslims and Jews would escalate the tension in the city and lead to further fighting in the region.
"The Aqsa Mosque with all its courtyards and premises inside al-Haram al-Sharif of Jerusalem is a sacred place for the Muslims and a pivotal site for the Palestinian people, and it has to be preserved and protected," he emphasized.
The MK deplored the recent "provocative" visit of agriculture minister Uri Ariel to the Aqsa Mosque and the protection provided by the Israeli police for such visits by Jewish settlers and officials.

Israeli occupation army continued its large-scale arrest campaigns against Palestinians in the West Bank and Occupied Jerusalem. Israeli Occupation forces (IOF) broke into Palestinians’ houses and clashes erupted to stop Israeli violations.
In Occupied Jerusalem, IOF soldiers arrested 9 Palestinians whereas Israeli policemen and Special Forces along with Shin Bet agents stormed, searched and wreaked havoc in dozens of houses east of Jerusalem.
The committee of the families of Jerusalemite Prisoners revealed that 6 minors (14-15 year old) were rounded up on Tuesday. They were transferred to the Russian Compound investigation center to be brought to court to look into the renewal of their detention.
Earlier on Monday, clashes erupted between IOF soldiers and Palestinians youths in al-Issawiya town in Occupied Jerusalem in response to the martyrdom of the young man Mohammad Abu Latifa after he was shot by Israeli soldiers in an attempt to arrest him.
Three other minors got arrested by IOF soldiers last night in the Old City of Jerusalem after assaulting them by severe beatings. One minor suffered internal bleeding then he was released to be taken to hospital. The other two were held under house arrest as well as deportation from the Aqsa Mosque.
In al-Khalil, IOF arrested on Tuesday one young man from al-Fawwar refugee camp to the south of the city whereas clashes erupted during the Israeli storming operation.
