Thousands of Palestinians on Saturday marched along the eastern border of the Gaza Strip to mark the first anniversary of the Great March of Return.
The Ministry of Health announced that four protesters were killed by Israeli gunfire, and 316 were injured, including 86 children, 29 women, 3 medics, and 6 journalists.
The martyrs were identified as Mohammed Saad, 20, Adham Amara, Tamer Abu al-Kheir, and Belal al-Najjar. The three are aged 17.
The head of Hamas's political bureau Ismail Haneyya and the Egyptian delegation to Gaza attended the protest camp held east of Gaza city, the PIC reporter said.
A general strike was announced by the Higher National Committee for the Great March of Return and Breaking the Siege earlier in the day in all Gaza institutions in commemoration of the Palestinian Land Day and the first anniversary of the border demonstration.
Spokesman for the Gaza Ministry of Interior and National Security Iyad al-Bozom said in a statement that the ministry deployed 8,000 of its security forces along the border to help and protect the demonstrators.
The Palestinians launched the Great March of Return on 30 March 2018 on the border between the Gaza Strip and the 1948 occupied territories to demand the refugees right to return and call for lifting the 13-year-long blockade on Gaza.

It stated that 13 Palestinians were shot with live rounds, four with rubber-coated steel bullets, four were injured by shrapnel, seven were shot with gas bombs, and 14 suffered various cuts and bruises.
Seventeen of the wounded were injured in the neck and face, 10 in the upper extremities, 2 in the back and chest, 4 in the pelvis and abdomen, 19 in the lower extremities, 6 suffered the effects of teargas inhalation, and one who suffered wounds to various parts of the body.
Eleven of the wounded Palestinians were injured in northern Gaza, 12 near Gaza city, 16 in the central district, 5 in Khan Younis, and 15 in Rafah, in southern Gaza.
The army also targeted many medics and ambulances, wounding two medics and causing damage to one ambulance.

The Palestinian Health Ministry has reported that a young man died, on Saturday morning, after Israeli soldiers shot him with a live round during a protest, east of Gaza city.
Update: The soldiers shot seven Palestinians, and caused dozens to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation, across the perimeter fence in the eastern parts of the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said medics have provided treatment to 99 Palestinians.
The protests are still ongoing in several areas of the Gaza Strip, especially east of Gaza city, Jabalia in northern Gaza, al-Boreij in central Gaza, in addition to Khan Younis and Rafah, in the southern part.
Dr. Ashraf al-Qedra, the spokesperson of the Health Ministry in Gaza, said the Palestinian, Mohammad Jihad Sa’ad, 20, was killed after the soldiers fired live rounds at Palestinian protesters on their lands near the perimeter fence.
He said the Palestinian was killed after being struck with a bullet shrapnel in the head, near the perimeter fence, east of Gaza city.
Mohammad was from the Sheja’eyya neighborhood in Gaza city; his corpse was moved to the Shifa Medical Center.
It is worth mentioning that Mohammad was injured several times since the beginning of the Great Return March procession a year ago.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed, in a statement, that Muhammad Jihad Saad, 20, was injured in the head with bullet shrapnel, and transferred to the al-Shifa Hospital for medical treatment, where he was pronounced dead on Saturday morning.
At least 11 Palestinians were injured alongside the eastern border fence of the Gaza Strip during "Night Confusion" protests.
For several weeks, hundreds of Palestinian protesters, have been organizing, as well as participating in night protests, during which they set tires on fire and chant slogans through loud speakers, while marching towards the border with Israel. These protesters are also known as the "Night Confusion" unit.
Additionally, the ministry declared that all emergency departments of the Gaza Strip are prepared for Land Day protests across the besieged enclave as it also marks the 1 year anniversary for "The Great March of Return" protests that launched on March 30th, 2018 by thousands of Palestinian civilians in Gaza -- which has suffered from a decade-long Israeli siege -- who took to the borders to demand their right of return as refugees to their original homelands, now in present-day Israel.

The protests were smaller than the usual weekly protests have been, as Palestinians in Gaza gear up for major protests on Saturday to commemorate the 43rd Palestinian Land Day.
It was Land Day 2018 that sparked the weekly protest movement known as the Great March of Return, which has taken place every week since March 30, 2018, and has resulted in the deaths of nearly 200 Palestinian protesters shot by Israeli sharpshooters, and the serious injuries of more than 11,000, according to the Palestinian Center for Human Rights.
Friday’s protests took place in four locations along the eastern border of Gaza, with Israeli tanks and troops lined up on the other side of the border.
The troops and tanks have been amassing there since Monday, apparently planning for a land invasion of Gaza to accompany the airstrikes that have been ongoing all week, and have destroyed at least thirty buildings, including high rise apartment and office buildings.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, two Palestinians were moderately wounded in their legs with live gunfire from Israeli snipers. The injuries took place at the protest east of Jabaliya, in the northern part of the West Bank.
Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from all over Gaza are expected to participate in the Land Day protests on Saturday, and Palestinian leaders have urged the Israeli military to show restraint and to stop their practice of indiscriminately firing live ammunition toward the unarmed protesters, as they have done every week since the protests began one year ago.

Coordinator of the local popular committee in the village, Murad Ishteiwi, said that Israeli forces attacked protesters using fired rubber-coated bullets and tear-gas bombs.
Palestinian youths responded by throwing rocks and empty bottles.
No injuries nor detentions were reported.
Ishteiwi added that hundreds of locals took part in the march that was called for by the Fatah movement in commemoration of Land Day and in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons.
Residents of Kafr Qaddum stage regular protests against land confiscations as well as the closure of the village's southern road by Israeli forces. The road is the main route to the nearby city of Nablus, the nearest economic center.

Ninety Palestinian prisoners held at section 3 of the Negev prison, in southern Israel, were handcuffed to their beds overnight last Monday, following raids in different sections of the prison that left hundreds of Palestinian prisoners injured after Hamas-affiliated prisoners stabbed two Israeli prison guards.

Morad Eshteiwi, the coordinator of the ‘Popular Resistance Committee’, told Maan that Israeli forces shot rubber-coated steel bullets and tear-gas bombs at demonstrators, local youth reacted by throwing rocks and bottles. The Fatah movement called on Palestinians to show solidarity for Palestinians in Israeli prisons.
On March 25, 2019 in the southern Israeli Negev prison, ninety Palestinian prisoners were handcuffed to their beds overnight, harsh restrictions that were imposed by the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) after 2 Israeli prison guards were stabbed by Hamas affiliated prisoners. The ensuing raids on prisoner cells, caused the injuries of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.
Protesters in al-Mughayer village gathered to protest the Israeli settlement being constructed on village land in contravention of international law.
They were met by a barrage of tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers who had invaded the village in anticipation of what has become a weekly Friday protest in the village.

Israeli naval forces opened heavy fire, on Friday, towards Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of the southern besieged Gaza Strip.
A Ma'an reporter said that Israeli naval forces opened fire at Palestinians fishing boats within the permitted fishing zone, near Khan Younis, forcing the fishermen to head back to shore in fear for their lives.
No injuries were reported.
According to the United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Israel’s blockade of the coastal enclave has seriously undermined the ability for Gazan fishermen to make a living at sea.
Israeli human rights group B'Tselem recently concluded that Israel's Gaza closure and "harassment of fishermen" have been "destroying Gaza's fishing sector," with 95% of fishermen living below the poverty line.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that five Palestinian protesters were injured east of Jabaliya, in northern Gaza, while another six were injured east of Gaza City, in central Gaza.
The ministry added that the 11 Palestinians suffered various injuries. However, their medical condition remained unknown.
