A 23-year-old security guard was attacked in Kiryat Ata on Saturday after passersby mistook him for a terrorist.
Taxi passengers set upon a security guard from Kiryat Ata, who served in the IDF's Kfir Brigade, and attacked him believing he was a terrorist; the young man was lightly wounded.
A security guard at a police facility in Kiryat Ata was attacked by taxi passengers on Saturday who he claims suspected he was a terrorist.
The guard, a Christian originally from Kafr Yasif in northern Israel who served in the IDF's Kfir Brigade, was set upon in the center of Kiryat Ata as he was on his way to work after visiting his girlfriend.
"A car was sitting in the middle of the road so I honked my horn and then got out of my car to see what was happening," the security guard said.
"A taxi driver passing by saw the crucifix in my car and started shouting: 'He's an Arab terrorist.' They then started beating me with everything they had: sticks, chains and knives," he continued.
"I shouted at them that I'm a police security guard but it didn't help. They continued beating me on my head and my shoulders. All over my body," the 23-year-old said.
Investigators at Zevulun District Police held one of the suspects in the attack for questioning while Nahariya police collected the security guard's testimony.
"I managed to push them away when I realized that if I didn't get out of the situation, I wouldn't get out alive," he continued. "I got into my car and drove, and ran into something. It was frightening."
When he arrived at his workplace, his car was taken to be checked by investigators.
In a statement, the police said that the young man had got out of his car and "asked the driver of the vehicle in front of him why he had stopped at the traffic light. The driver was alarmed and shouted 'terrorist.' According to the security guard, taxi passengers close by heard the shout and attacked him, lightly wounding him."
Paramedics from Magen David Adom and United Hatzalah arrived at the police station and treated the young man onsite. MDA paramedics then took him to the Western Galilee Hospital in Nahariya. He is suffering from bruising and injuries to his shoulders.
"It's just shocking what they did to him," said the security guard's mother. "Ten people thought he was a terrorist and fell on him with sticks and knives, wounding him on his head, his shoulders and all over his body.
"We're in shock. He served in the military and everything," the mother added.

Palestinian medical sources in Jerusalem have reported Friday that Israeli soldiers assaulted dozens of nonviolent protesters marching in Jabal al-Mokabber, in occupied Jerusalem, causing dozens to suffer the effects of tear gas inhalation. The Palestinians marched demanding Israel to transfer the bodies of eleven slain Palestinians.
The Palestinians are also demanding Israel to end its deadly siege on their neighborhoods and communities, in different parts of occupied Jerusalem, after the army blockaded them with concrete blocks, and dozens of roadblocks.
They are also demanding the Israeli Authorities to allow the transfer the remains of ten Palestinians from Jerusalem, who were killed by the army in previous attacks, and to void the orders for the destruction of their families’ homes, as such measures are collective punishment, illegal under International Law and the Fourth Geneva Conventions.
Adnan Gheith, Fateh Secretary in Occupied Jerusalem, said the Palestinians have the right to bury their dead in proper ceremonies, and will not stand idle while Israel continues to demolish homes, and destroy the lives of entire families.
Gheith added that the Palestinians would always oppose and resist all attacks and invasions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and warned that ongoing violations and provocative tours by Israeli fanatics and soldiers into Al-Aqsa, will only lead to further clashes and tension.
The slain Palestinians Israel is still refusing to transfer their remains are:

Israeli soldiers on Friday assaulted the weekly nonviolent protest against the Apartheid Wall and illegal Israeli colonies, in Bil’in village, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah, kidnapped three international activists and one Palestinian.

Abu Rahma added that he heard the commander of the military unit told his soldiers "to get close to the Palestinian journalists because they carry knives with them”, and told his soldiers that "if any journalist approached the soldiers they must open fire on them."
He stated that such allegations from a military commander are very serious, "One day those will not just be words, such false claims against us, will eventually lead them to killing or wounding us; they did that to others this past month."
The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) reported that the soldiers kidnapped Mohammad al-Khatib from Bil’in, along with an American Jewish Code Pink activist, a Finnish activist and an Italian activist. The soldiers assaulted the Italian activist, Antonio Fresta, and repeatedly pepper-sprayed him in the face at close range.
The ISM said:
"At approximately 1pm two women, an American and a Scandinavian, were walking along the road near to the wall with 3 other people when Israeli Forces advanced and detained both of them. When Mohammad al-Khatib approached the Israeli forces to question why the women were being detained, he was also detained and arrested.
The soldiers then shot several rounds of teargas across the valley, and ran after a Chilean and Italian filming nearby.”
"According to Australian ISM volunteer Phoebe, who was also present at the scene, 'there were just a few men throwing stones at the wall, far away from two jeeps, and far away from those they arrested, and then they seemed to come directly for our friends and arrest the first Palestinian who came near them.'"
"While moving away from the rain of teargas, the Italian was chased, beaten and pepper-sprayed repeatedly, before being arrested and dragged into a jeep by Israeli forces. Despite the fact that he did not resist arrest nor break any perceivable law in his actions, he was denied medical assistance from the nearby ambulance and was taken directly into custody."
The Chilean activist stated "We were running because they were shooting and I think Antonio fell. They sprayed him right in the eyes again and again. I told them we were not doing anything wrong, but they just kept going." Video
