Israeli Antiquity Authority staff members, escorted by armed police and soldiers, stormed on Tuesday morning Muslims’ Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery, in Occupied Jerusalem, and filled eight tombs with dust pile.
Head of the Islamic Cemeteries Committee, Sheikh Mustafa Abu Zahra, slammed the break-in.
“The Israeli occupation forces violated the sanctity of the cemetery and covered up eight graves prepared for the burial of dead Muslims,” Abu Zahara told the PIC.
“I headed to the cemetery and scrutinized the scale of destruction,” he stated, adding that a lawyer has been hired to file a lawsuit over the assault.
According to Abu Zahra, the Israeli Antiquity Authority claimed ownership of the Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery, which has been an Islamic property for over 1,400 years, as has been corroborated by documents and historical records.
The Israeli occupation authorities seized parts of Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery, adjacent to the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, to build parks for Israeli settlers residing in illegal outposts across the occupied Palestinian territories.
Muslims have, meanwhile been banned from burying their dead relatives in the cemetery.
The Bab Al-Rahma Cemetery draws much of its sacred character from the fact that it has been a home to the cadavers of a number of Companions of the Prophet of Islamic, Mohamed (Peace Be Upon Him), including Ubada Ibn Al-Samet.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Tuesday kidnapped Palestinian civilians from the West Bank and aggressively attacked the family of slain Turkman.
Three Palestinians were kidnapped by the IOF at the crack of dawn from Nablus’s southern town of Talfit, in the northern West Bank.
The IOF stormed the town in over 12 jeeps and a troop-carrier at around 2:30 a.m. and raked through residential neighborhoods.
The occupation troops wreaked havoc on the family home of Mohamed Fawzi Al-Haj Mohamed and kidnapped his son Abdul Rahman, 29.
Mahmoud Jabr Al-Haj Mohamed, 29, was also kidnapped by the occupation soldiers shortly after they ravaged his family home and smashed the entrance gates.
Nabeel Jabr Al-Haj Mohamed was kidnapped by the IOF from his own family home in the assault.
Reporting from Jenin, a PIC news correspondent said the IOF came down heavily on the family of the slain Palestinian security officer Mohamed Abdul Khalek Turkman, 25, who was shot dead by the occupation army on Monday evening after he carried out an anti-occupation shooting attack in Ramallah.
The IOF stormed Turkman’s family home and subjected his father and brothers to intensive questioning before they aggressively attacked them. The assault culminated in the abduction of Turkman’s three bothers.
Two brothers were released following exhaustive questioning for over two hours while 21-year-old Muhannad was kept in custody.
An Israeli intelligence officer threatened retaliation and the demolition of Turkman’s family home.
The IOF soldiers further broke into the homes of Turkman’s uncles and cousins and violently attacked them.
Clashes flared up in the area, where the IOF attacked the Palestinian anti-occupation protesters with teargas canisters and rubber bullet fire.

The Israeli occupation army on Sunday night imposed a tight siege on Beit Ummar town, north of al-Khalil, after a local young man allegedly wounded three soldiers in a vehicular attack.
Local activist Mohamed Awad said that the Israeli army closed all entrances to Beit Ummar and deployed dozens of its soldiers in the area following the car-ramming attack.
Awad added that the army also obstructed the movement of Palestinian vehicles on the road between Jerusalem and al-Khalil, which led to heavy traffic congestion.
A news reporter from the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) affirmed earlier that a large number of Israeli troops rushed to the attack scene, and closed the Jerusalem-al-Khalil road leading to the town’s main entrance.
He said that violent clashes broke out between local young men and Israeli soldiers at the main entrance to the town.
A military watchtower at the entrance also went on fire when young men attacked it with Molotov cocktails during the events.

A Palestinian child suffered several injuries on Saturday evening after Israeli soldiers physically assaulted him in Beitunia town, west of Ramallah.
The Red Crescent said that one of its ambulance crews evacuated 13-year-old Ameer Farrukh from an area near the bypass road in Beitunia after his exposure to severe beating by soldiers.
It added that the child suffered leg fractures and bruises in different parts of his body.
Local sources asserted the boy was assaulted on Idrees farm near the Israeli-controlled bypass road, noting that he was alone in the area.
In a separate incident, a group of Palestinian farmers from Huwara town in Nablus survived a possible attack by Jewish settlers from Yitzhar settlement after an Israeli security guard premeditatedly prevented them from harvesting olives from their grove.
According to Huwara municipal chief Naser Hawari, a security guard from Yitzhar settlement intercepted the farmers upon their arrival at their olive fields in al-Lahf area, west of the town, and told them that they could not collect olives, claiming that their coordination with the Israeli authorities to enter their land had been cancelled.
As a result, the farmers had to go back and as they were walking, they saw a horde of settlers blocking the main road waiting to assault them, so they took another route to avoid them.
The farmers had already been permitted by the Israeli authorities to enter their fields to harvest olives for three days.
