He was not protected by his injury nor his crutch.
The young Jerusalemite Amir Abu Laban, 28 years old, was hospitalized in the Hadassah Ein Karem hospital in Jerusalem, after he was cruelly beaten by Israeli soldiers at the King Hussein Bridge crossing at the Jordanian-Palestinian border a few days ago.
Abu Laban has completed a research project after the establishment of the Daat Center in Jerusalem to promote the Arabic language for children and build their skills of reading, writing and expression to increase their self-confidence and belonging to their language by following a thoughtful scientific approach that works to enhance the child’s abilities and linguistic development. The Center functions in Jerusalem and the surrounding areas and is working on establishing various programs there.
No mercy
The crime of the young Abu Laban was that he said to the occupation soldiers that he has special needs, and that he cannot be examined through X-rays which has a negative impact on his health, due to the existence of platinum in his body because of his disability, yet the soldiers violently assaulted him.
The mother of Abu Laban, who won the E-Turn World Council Award, said he was one of 100 people worldwide who have contributed to the dissemination of the Arabic language by teaching children in a loving and easy way. Abu Laban was returning from the Jordanian capital Amman last Thursday after being awarded and celebrated there.
She added, “When he arrived at the checkpoint on the Israeli side, he tried to go to one of the guards to tell him that he could not enter through the inspection device, because of the existence of platinum in his feet, and because of the impact of radiation on his health, yet soldiers brutally beat him.”
Abu Laban speaks of the incident
Abu Laban explains to those who visit him what happened: “The soldiers beat me, and then they grabbed my arm and pushed me back. They threw me to the ground, but I could not resist them because of my injury. They directed their guns at me while beating me.”
As for the health status of Abu Laban, he still suffers from a headache because of beatings as well as breathing difficulty and the continuing nerve attacks, after transferring him from the border crossing to the hospital in occupied Jerusalem.
The Center has trained some 320 children from Jerusalem and has enhanced their skills in using Arabic language in terms of pronouns, sentences and the ability to express. The Center works to develop the children’s abilities and enhance their self-confidence by enabling them to use the Arabic language using a special curriculum that employs scientific and thoughtful activities that ultimately serve to build an empowered personality. The teaching method also includes observing the difference before and after taking the course.

Palestinian crowds gathered at the west northern borders of the besieged Gaza Strip to take part in a boat protest setting off from the Gaza seaport against the siege, on Monday.
A Ma'an reporter said that the Israeli navy obstructed the protest's way off the shore by firing live ammunition and tear-gas bombs towards protesters.
The National Committee for Breaking the Siege, that organized the protest, called upon the "free world" to save Gaza.
As part of Israel's blockade of the coastal enclave since 2007, the Israeli army, citing security concerns, requires Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip to work within a limited "designated fishing zone," the exact limits of which are decided by the Israeli authorities and have historically fluctuated.
Many attempts have been made throughout the years to draw the public's attention to and break the on-going siege of the Gaza Strip whether via ships attempting to sail into Gaza or ships attempting to sail from Gaza.
