Cellular provider fires employee for posting photo of Jerusalem stabber with captions 'my love,' 'martyr.' She claims she was unlawfully dismissed.
An employee working for Pelephone, an Israeli cellular provider was fired for posting a picture of the terrorist Fadi Aloun, with the captions "martyr" and "my love."
Aloun, 19, a resident of Issawiya in East Jerusalem, stabbed a 15-year-old Jewish boy in Jerusalem on Sunday night, moderately injuring him. Aloun himself was later shot and killed by police officers who noticed him carrying a knife.
The employee, Tamara Sweity, changed her profile picture to a portrait of Aloun, and added the caption "shaheed," or martyr. She also posted a status update in which she wrote, "My love, you are far from my eyes."
The company’s deputy director for human resources, Tzvika Abromovich, wrote a letter to the company's employees, stating that Sweity was fired after she rejected repeated requests to remove the offensive pictures.
"We employ thousands of people and serve millions of clients from every background," he wrote. "Pelephone is not a political organization, and does not express it's opinion on political or diplomatic matters. The same is expected of our employees who identify as company workers on their personal Facebook profiles. Sadly, we recently encountered a case in which an employee expressed support for terrorism on her personal Facebook page, in a manner that was offensive and in breach of company policy and norms."
"The employee rejected repeated requests to remove the offensive picture and content, and as such we were forced to notify her of the termination of her employment," he went on to write. "We cannot allow political conflicts to enter the workplace. Even during these times, we must act with restraint and in a way that respects fellow employees and clients."
In a conversation with ynet, Sweity claimed that she knew Aloun personally, and that the status she posted was not meant to support or identify with his actions, but rather express sorrow over his death.
"I didn't write a post of support, and I didn’t publish it in solidarity with his actions, but rather due to my close friendship with him," she said. "I don’t know what really happened; he never spoke about these kinds of actions."
She additionally claimed that her employment was illegally terminated. "They did not hold a hearing or a talk with me," she said. "They have yet to speak with me or tell me that I am fired, they just removed me from the work whatsapp group, without any explanation."
"I asked my friend, and she said that an email was sent out to all the employees, in which management had said that I published a post which supported terrorism. They made me into a terrorist. There is no law against publishing pictures. It’s simply an injustice to fire someone like that," Sweity added.
"The base for firing her is questionable"
Chemi Lapidor, an expert in labor law from the law firm Lapidor and Associates, explained that there is a legal problem with firing a worker on the basis of her remarks. "Even though her remarks are infuriating and wretched, they serve a questionable basis for terminating her employment," he explained.
"An employee, like any other person, is entitled to freedom of expression, without censorship from his/her employer. As such, it’s reasonable to assume that if the case reaches the courts, they are likely to rule in her favor. With that said, in a case where the employee's remarks cause real damage to the company's image or business, and the damage can be proven, then the courts will likely rule that the termination was legal.
As of now, it is unclear whether her remarks caused actual damage to the company."

We can confirm that Abdul-Rahman was an 8th grader at the UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Service) boys’ school in Aida refugee camp. He was fatally shot in the chest, whilst still wearing his school uniform and backpack.
Layan Al-Azzeh, a woman in her 20s from Aida refugee camp, told PNN that Abdul-Rahman had been standing around two metres from the school gates, and was on his way home.
She told reporters the violence had been ongoing, saying: “The soldiers yesterday [Monday], since the morning, would open fire, rubber bullets and teargas on people walking on the streets.”
Munther Amira, head of the Popular Struggle Coordination Committee, today told PNN that Abdul-Rahman had been assassinated whilst playing under the flag of UNRWA.
He insisted that the Palestinian struggle for freedom would continue to grow.
He said: “We, Palestinians will continue struggling against this occupation, and we are going to take the Israeli leaders to the International Criminal Court (ICC) as they give direct orders for their soldiers to kill [children as] AbdulRahman.”
Salah Ajarma, director of the Lajee community centre in Aida camp, said: “We call on the international community and human rights organizations to look after the Palestinian children, and secure them from the ongoing Israeli occupation.
As the dust settles on the funeral of AbdulRahman, a new force is rising across the west bank.
Clashes here are expected to continue into the night, and with four Palestinians dead and more than 500 injured in the West Bank in the past few days, the eyes of the world are once again turning towards Palestine, the heart of the middle east.

An 18-year-old Palestinian was killed by Kiryat Gat police on Wednesday after he stabbed a soldier and snatched his rifle before running for shelter in a nearby building.
The soldier was lightly wounded after Amjad al Jundi, from the town of Yata near Hebron, engaged him after getting off a bus. It has emerged that he stayed in Israel illegally.
A female Kiryat Gat resident struggled with the assailant after he seized the weapon from the soldier and entered her home while fleeing. According to her relative, he tried to shoot but there were no bullets left in the soldier's cartridge that he snatched.
"She came back from shopping, opened the door and apparently he tried to open it," the relative recounted. "She fought him to prevent him from opening the door. He came in and tried to shoot her, but there were no bullets in the cartridge. Then he went into the kitchen and wanted to get a knife. She struggled with him, screamed and fled to a neighbor, and was miraculously saved." The relative added that police killed Al Jundi at the entrance to the apartment.
The attack in the southern city is the third in the space of a few hours, preceded by a rock ambush in the West Bank and a stabbing attack in the Jerusalem's Old City.
"An initial investigation revealed that the suspect got off the bus in Kiryat Gat, saw the soldier, and stole his weapon," a police spokesperson told Ynet.
"The soldier struggled with the attacker, and suffered a minor stab wound to his head as a result. The suspect then sprinted into a nearby residential building. Soldiers from the Kiryat Gat station arrived on the scene within a number of minutes and reached the suspect when he apparently began opening fire on them. The police returned fire and he was killed. Police believe that the attack has nationalistic motives."
Medics and Paramedics from Magen David Adom provided initial treatment and evacuated two people who were lightly injured and fully conscious.

Left to right: Huthaifa Othan, Abdul-Rahman Obeidallah, Fadi Alloun, killed by IOF in two days
On October 5th, Aida Refugee camp lost another of its children to Israel’s occupation.
Abd al-Rahman Shadi; a child of just 13 years, and a Palestinian refugee, was shot and killed by an Israeli sniper in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem. Abd al-Rahman was shot as he stood beneath the flag of the United Nations, a meter from the UNRWA office at the entrance of Aida Camp.
Abd al-Rahman is the seventh child of Aida Camp to have been killed by Israeli occupying forces since its encirclement by the illegal Annexation Wall in 2005. Many others have received non-fatal gunshot wounds whilst, in the same time period, more than 80 children of Aida Camp have been arrested by the Israeli military, typically during violent night-time home invasions.
Abd al-Rahman was shot and killed whilst returning home after a day at school. He was taken to the hospital still wearing his backpack. Targeted by an Israeli sniper, he was shot in the chest with live ammunition whilst standing among a group of children in front of UNRWA office. The distance between the office and the Israeli military base from which Abd al-Raham was targeted is in excess of 100 meters. As such, there can be no reasonable contention that Abd al-Raham posed any form of threat to Israeli soldiers, and his death represents the latest tragedy in an endless record of unlawful Palestinian bloodshed at the hands of the Israeli occupying power.
Israel’s use of lethal weaponry against Palestinian civilians in so-called ‘crowd control’ scenarios inside the occupied Palestinian territory is well-established, and was addressed by the Independent Commission of Inquiry on Gaza 2014, which stated its concern at “the regular resort by [Israeli forces] to live ammunition, including in situations where there is no direct or imminent threat to [Israeli forces] or other individuals. The use of live bullets inevitably raises the likelihood of death or serious injury.” In this light, tragedies such as the killing of Abd al-Raham cannot be seen as exceptions, but rather as the natural and intended result of discriminatory Israeli policy. This policy – and the killing of Palestinian children – will continue for as long as accountability for such crimes is absent.
We, the residents and organizations of Aida Refugee Camp, condemn in the strongest possible terms both the unlawful killing of Abd al-Rahman, and the regular and systematic incursions and attacks on the camp by Israeli military forces which serve no purpose other than to provoke a refugee community which is already subjected to a wide range of gross abuses of fundamental human rights on a daily basis. Accordingly, we, the the residents and organizations of Aida Refugee Camp, call upon:
– The Palestinian Authority/Palestinian Liberation Organization to investigate the unlawful killing of Abd al-Rahman, and to submit his case to the International Criminal Court; The international community to fulfill its commitment toward Palestinian people, particularly in affording refugees the full protection to which they are entitled.

The childhood and innocence of 13-year-old Abdulrahman Shadi Obaidullah did not spare him the bullets of an Israeli sniper, who pointed his gun and fired a bullet into the child's heart. This practice falls in contrary to the moral lesson provided by the Palestinian resistance during the Nablus operation last Thursday.
Beit Jala hospital director Said Sarahna confirmed that the child arrived at the hospital suffering from a critical injury; as a result of the one bullet in the heart shot by an Israeli sniper.
He said that “the child Obaidullah underwent to a surgical operation in the heart to save his life, and the doctors also conducted a cardiopulmonary resuscitation operation (CPR) after his pulse had stopped”.
“The doctors conducted the required procedures to save the child's life; however, their efforts failed due to the serious injury”, he added.
Killing without distinction
Hamouda Nasser, a relative of the martyr, said that Abdulrahman was an example of good manners, beloved by all his peers. He opined that the killer sniper meant by killing the child Obaidullah that “children will not be spared and that children will be killed without distinction”.
Hearing the news of their child's murder, the parents broke down and cried but praised Allah (saying Alhamdulellah), wondering where are the much trumpeted ethics of war by the Israeli soldiers.
As soon as the news of the child's death spread, hundreds of citizens flocked to his family's home; and chanted for the resistance, calling on it to revenge for all those killed by the Israeli soldiers.
Army without ethics
Khaldoun Samih, from the Aida refugee camp, compared between the ethics of the resistance fighters who did not kill the children of settlers in the Nablus and Jerusalem operations with the deliberate killing of the child Obaidullah with a bullet in his heart by a sniper soldier. He said, "Ethics of resistance outperformed the occupation soldiers and showed them that they are the animals and monsters, not the Palestinians."
In their attack, the resistance fighters avoided killing the children who were in the car which they targeted at point blank although they killed two of the settlers who were inside the car; in an incident that sparked great feedback on the morality and humanity of the Palestinian resistance fighters.
Retaliation
Targeting the child with a bullet in his heart a day after the injury of a soldier from the Israeli border guards by an explosive device in the environs of Bilal bin Rabah mosque at the northern entrance to the city of Bethlehem, was interpreted by some citizens that the killing was intended in retaliation for the injury of the Israeli soldier ... a new evidence to the lack of morality of the occupation army.
As soon as the news of the martyrdom of the child Obaidullah spread, masked men were seen marching in the streets of Bethlehem asking the shops to close their doors in mourning to the child’s demise.
The national and Islamic forces in Bethlehem condemned the crime of executing the child with cold blood, and held the Israeli occupation government and the settlers responsible for this heinous crime.
They called for public mobilization at flashpoints in the province, which indicated that the martyrdom of the child Obaidullah might trigger a third intifada.
