An unidentified gunman opened fire from a passing vehicle near the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit El north of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank Sunday morning, with no injuries reported, according to an Israeli army spokesperson.
The spokesperson added that Israeli forces found several ammunition shells at the scene and were searching the area for the suspect or suspects.
Meanwhile, after a man who allegedly stabbed and lightly injured a settler in the illegal Israeli settlement of Efrat southwest of Bethlehem Friday night, Israeli forces continued to crack down on Palestinian villages in the area as of Saturday in search for the suspect.
Dozens of Israeli military vehicles stormed the village of Wadi Rahhal, which is near Efrat, Friday evening and conducted a house-to-house search, as Israeli helicopters hovered overhead. While Israeli troops left Wadi Rahhal Saturday morning after searching the entire village, military checkpoints were installed at roads, forcing residents to commute to work on foot by hiking through fields.
A wave of unrest that began in October last year has largely been marked by small-scale attacks or alleged attacks by Palestinians with knives or similar weapons on uniformed Israeli soldiers or police. However, a number of attacks, including drive-by shootings, have targeted Israeli settlers residing in illegal settlements in the occupied West Bank.
Some 34 Israelis have been killed since Oct. 2016, and in the same period at least 246 Palestinians have been killed by Israelis.
Rights groups estimate the settler population in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to be between 500,000 to 600,000, all of whom reside in 196 illegal Israeli settlements in direct violation of international law. The overwhelming majority of the United Nations Security Council affirmed the illegality of settlements in a new resolution passed this week.

A Jewish settler suffered minor injuries in an alleged stabbing attack on Friday night in the illegal settlement of Efrat, south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli media said that the attacker, believed to be a Palestinian young man, infiltrated into the settlement through a nearby vineyard and stabbed a 50-year-old settler outside his house.
The wounded settler had injuries in his back and neck and was transferred to Shaare Zedek hospital in Occupied Jerusalem.
Investigations depended on the story of the settler because no one else witnessed the incident.
Afterwards, a large number of military and security troops were dispatched to the scene and embarked on searching the area for the suspect.
Israeli military and security forces also encircled and stormed the nearby village of Wadi Rahhal, where a vast tract of its land had been seized for the establishment of Efrat, and carried out violent raids on its homes and stores.
They also launched a similar campaign in another nearby village called Mirah Rabah and set up a makeshift checkpoint at its main entrance, where soldiers brutalized Palestinian passersby and checked their ID cards.
Several roadblocks and checkpoints were also established by the Israeli army and police on roads connecting towns of al-Khalil, Bethlehem and Jerusalem as part of the search operation.

Anonymous gunmen on Monday evening opened fire at an Israeli bus in the illegal settlement region of Binyamin near Ramallah city.
According to the Israeli media, at least seven bullets hit an Israeli bus as it was traveling through the Binyamin settlement region en route to Talmon settlement.
The bus, which was claimed to be armored, sustained bullet holes, with no injuries among the settlers aboard it.
Afterwards, the Israeli army launched a manhunt for the shooters, who withdrew from the area.
In an earlier incident, one Jewish settler was slightly injured in a drive-by shooting as he was driving his car on a road near Ofarim settlement, north of Ramallah.
Since al-Quds intifada (uprising) started in October 2015, dozens of shooting, stabbing and car-ramming attacks happened against Israeli settlers and soldiers in retaliation to violations committed by or under the protection of the Israeli occupation authorities against the Palestinians and their holy sites in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The Israeli occupation forces at dawn Monday rolled into the West Bank and Jerusalem and kidnapped a number of Palestinians.
The IOF kidnapped four Palestinians from the Shu’fat camp, in Occupied Jerusalem.
The occupation troops further stormed Beit Fajjar, in southern Bethlehem, and kidnapped the 14-year-old Palestinian child Kusay Taqatqa.
Another Palestinian youth—Adham Ali Amer—was kidnapped by the occupation soldiers from his family home in Nablus’ town of Kafr Kalil.
Meanwhile, Palestinian anti-occupation protesters hurled stones at an Israeli bus driver near the illegal Kiryat Haim settlement outpost, built on Palestinian lands in Haifa, in 1948 Occupied Palestine (Green Line).
The Israeli Walla news site also claimed that an Israeli settler sustained mild injuries after gunshots were fired from a vehicle driving at a high speed near Ramallah’s northern village of Aboud.
On Sunday evening, the Israeli occupation police kidnapped a Palestinian youth near Nablus province on allegations that a riffle was detected in his van.
Israeli police spokeswoman, Luba Sumari, claimed the riffle was found by the Israeli cops after they searched a vehicle driving on Bypass Road 60.
The unidentified captive was dragged to an Israeli detention center pending intensive questioning.

A Palestinian youth was killed by Israeli border police forces on Thursday morning in the northern occupied West Bank after he allegedly attempted to carry out a stabbing attack.
Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said in a statement in Arabic that an 18-year-old Palestinian "suspiciously approached" Israeli border police officers in an attempt to stab them at the Zaatara junction south of the city of Nablus, prompting Israeli forces to shoot at him, killing him instantly.
Micky Rosenfeld, the English-language spokesperson for the Israeli police, said on Twitter that "Officers were in a life threatening situation" when they "responded to knife attack by a Palestinian terrorist."
However, footage taken from a moving car shared on social media purported to show the moments before the man was killed. He can clearly be seen standing immobile several meters away from soldiers who are holding him at gunpoint, seeming to contradict the Israeli authorities' claim that he posed a threat when he was shot.
Neither al-Samri nor Rosenfeld made mention of any Israelis being injured.
Locals identified the slain Palestinian as Jihad Hussein Harb, 19, from Qalqiliya.
They added that large numbers of Israeli troops had arrived at the scene following the shooting, and that Israeli forces had closed the Zaatara intersection -- also known as the Tappuah checkpoint -- in both directions.
A video filmed by a passerby showed Israeli forces cordoning off the scene after the youth’s killing.
According to Ma’an documentation, Harb is one of 242 Palestinians to have been killed by Israelis since the beginning of a wave of unrest across the occupied Palestinian territory in October 2015, five of whom were killed at the Zaatara checkpoint.
Meanwhile, 34 Israelis were killed by Palestinians during the same time period.
Throughout the unrest, rights groups have repeatedly denounced what they have termed Israeli forces' "shoot-to-kill" policy against Palestinians who did not constitute a threat at the time of their death or who could have been subdued in a non-lethal manner.
While Israel alleges many of those were attempting to attack Israelis when they were shot, Palestinians and rights groups have disputed Israel's version of events in a number of cases.

The Israeli occupation army at dawn Friday raked through al-Khalil’s southern town of Dura, in the southern West Bank, in an attempt to quash anti-occupation stone-throwing.
Israeli news outlets claimed Palestinian protesters hurled stones on a settler car driving near Dura town.
The vehicle sustained material damage. However, no injuries were reported in the stoning attack.
The Israeli occupation army scoured the area in the hunt for the alleged stone throwers, sparking panic in the area.
Unarmed Palestinian anti-occupation protesters have often resorted to stone-hurling as the only means to defend themselves against the simmering aggressions launched by the heavily-armed Israeli troops and settler gangs across the occupied Palestinian territories.
