Israeli forces carried out multiple detention raids across the occupied West Bank, overnight Monday, after three Israeli settlers were injured in a shooting south of Nablus and an explosive device was allegedly hurled at a settler vehicle near Ramallah.
Dozens of settlers from the illegal settlement of Beit Eil were also reported to have attacked Palestinian vehicles on the road between Ramallah and Nablus.
The violent reprisals come as the president of the Shomron regional council, which groups together illegal Israeli settlements in the northern West Bank, said in a statement that "we must not let terrorism spread."
"I call on the government to authorize the army to act without pity against these savages who take civilians for targets," he said.
The Israeli army reported that three Israeli settlers were injured in Monday's shooting while driving near the West Bank village of al-Mughayir.
Israeli media said four settlers were injured in the attack.
Israeli forces in the early hours of Tuesday stormed al-Mughayir and made multiple detention raids.
Witnesses said large numbers of Israeli soldiers ransacked Palestinian homes, "detaining young men haphazardly."
They added that the soldiers deployed on every street corner in the village after setting up military checkpoints at its entrances.
Worshipers who tried to go to mosques for dawn prayer were denied access and forced to return to their homes, they said.
Meanwhile, fierce clashes broke out between young Palestinians and Israeli soldiers late Monday after they stormed the village of Kafr Malik east of Ramallah.
Locals told Ma’an News Agency that the soldiers broke into shops and gas stations where they seized surveillance cameras.
Palestinian youth confronted the soldiers with stones and empty bottles as they deployed through the villages streets.
Israeli forces were also reported to have stormed the villages of Deir Jarir, Ibwein and Ajjul north of Ramallah and seized surveillance cameras from shops.
Witnesses said a checkpoint was set up at the entrance to the village of Atara north of Ramallah.
Separately, dozens of Israeli settlers from the illegal Beit El settlement near Ramallah threw stones at Palestinian vehicles travelling between Ramallah and Nablus.
Witnesses said that several vehicles were hit and many drivers chose to take other roads to avoid the section close to the illegal settlement.
Clashes later broke out when Palestinians from al-Jalazoun threw stones and fireworks at the settlers and Israeli soldiers rushed in, firing tear gas canisters, stun grenades and rubber-coated steel bullets.
Monday's shooting came following a string of "lone-wolf" attacks by Palestinians on Israeli military and civilians.
Earlier on Monday a Palestinian woman was arrested after she stabbed an Israeli soldier at the 300 checkpoint in Bethlehem, and on June 21 another Palestinian was shot after stabbing an Israeli border policeman in occupied East Jerusalem.
An average of two Israeli civilians per week have sustained injuries by Palestinians so far in 2015, with one Israeli killed, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.
In the same time period, however, an average of 39 Palestinians have been injured by Israeli forces per week and 13 killed, including two since the beginning of this month.
The number does not include incidents of injury by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank.
Ya'alon: Hamas Istanbul headquarters behind recent shooting attacks
Defense minister says drive-by shooting near Shilo, shooting of Danny Gonen were both funded by Iran; in light of recent wave of attacks, IDF increases presence in West Bank.
Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon said Tuesday that the recent shooting terror attacks have been sanctioned by Hamas' international headquarters in Istanbul and funded by Iran. Meanwhile, the IDF decided to increase its presence in the West Bank in search of the perpetrators of the attacks.
According to Ya'alon, this branch of Hamas, which moved to Turkey after being expelled from Syria, was behind the terror attack on Monday night near Shilo in which four Israelis were shot, one of them later succumbing to his wounds, while driving home from a basketball game; the shooting earlier this month near Dolev which left Israeli Danny Gonen dead and his friend wounded; and a shooting at a Magen David Adom ambulance near Beit El, in which no one was hurt.
All of these shootings happened in the same area of the West Bank - the Binyamin Regional Council - which bolsters the suspicion the same terror cell was involved.
The defense minister also said the attacks were fueled by incitement in the Palestinian Authority's official media.
"People are sitting at home during the holiday (Ramadan), watching TV, and go out to do things," Ya'alon told reporters during a briefing on Tuesday afternoon. He added that in light of the recent wave of attacks, including the stabbing of a female IDF soldier by a Palestinian woman during security check at the Rachel crossing on Monday morning, women will no longer be allowed to freely enter the Temple Mount and the age of men allowed to freely enter will change to 50 and older.
Increased IDF presence in West Bank
The IDF decided on Tuesday to reinforce its presence in the West Bank with an additional infantry battalion from the Nahal Brigade as a result of the recent spike in terror attacks in the area. The battalion will deal with defensive operations.
A high ranking official in the IDF said, "There is no collective punishment to the Palestinian population, and the steps that have been taken are a direct result of the current situation assessment and intelligence picture."
"The moment we get our hands on the perpetrators of the recent attacks we believe that the attacks will stop," he added. "The coordination with the Palestinian security forces continues as do the conversations with the settlers."
He also stressed that Israel was "far from what happened in the second intifada notwithstanding recent attacks. The recent attacks are a local group, and there is no connection between the attacks. There is no terror infrastructure behind the attacks."
During a meeting with Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on Tuesday, President Reuven Rivlin said: "This month of Ramadan is turning into a month of terror before our very eyes. Terror is terror, wherever it strikes in the land of Israel, and across the world." He called on the Palestinian leadership to condemn the attacks and act against them. "Their silence is louder than ever. These terrorist attacks will not succeed. The Jewish people will continue to live in the land of Israel without being forced to fear for their lives. I pray for the recovery of the wounded and trust the security services will bring those responsible to justice."

Israeli medical sources have reported
that four settlers have been injured, one seriously, late on Monday, in a
shooting attack carried out at the Shvut Rachel Junction, south of
Nablus, in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.
The
sources said two of the wounded, one who suffered a serious injury and
another in a moderate condition, were moved to the Shaare Zedek Medical
Center.
The two other wounded persons, who suffered moderate injuries, were moved to the Hadassah Ein Karem Medical Center, in Jerusalem.
Israeli Ynet News said the four wounded Israelis are in their twenties, and that they were shot in their upper and lower bodies.
Israeli daily Haaretz said the seriously wounded man, 27 years of age, is currently in the Intensive Care Unit, after doctors performed a surgery overnight; he suffered a gunshot injury to his torso.
Following the shooting, Israeli soldiers installed roadblocks, before hundreds of soldiers and including undercover units, initiated a large search campaign in the area.
The Ynet said the attack was carried out by Palestinian fighters, who “either conducted a drive-by shooting, or ambushed the setters, before fleeing the scene with the help on an escape car.”
Clashes also took place between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian youths in different areas of the Nablus district.
On Monday morning, a female Israeli soldier was injured after being stabbed in the neck, at the main crossing, near the Rachel Tomb, north of Bethlehem.
The army said it arrested a young Palestinian woman, identified as Maisoon Mousa from Bethlehem, and “located two knives” she reportedly carried in her bag.
According to the army, Mousa admitted to carrying out the attack, and that she went to the crossing “intending to kill a soldier.” It also said initial investigations indicate she acted on her own.
Terror attack in West Bank: Four Israelis wounded in shooting
One seriously wounded, three suffer moderate wounds after coming under fire at the Shvut Rachel Junction in the Binyamin region; this is 6th terror attack in 10 days of Ramadan.
One Israeli was seriously wounded and three others suffered moderate wounds on Monday night when they came under gunfire at the Shvut Rachel junction near Shilo in the West Bank.
Magen David Adom paramedics who arrived at the scene evacuated two of the wounded - one serious and one moderate to the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jeruselm, and two others moderately wounded to the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem's Ein Karem. All four, in their 20s, are suffering from bullet wounds to both upper and lower bodies.
The seriously wounded man was operated on overnight at Shaare Zedek Medical Center. He was hospitalized in intensive care.
The car was reportedly travelling north bound when the perpatrators opened fire.
The IDF set up roadblocks and checkpoints in the area and large forces from the Judea and Samaria division, including fighters from the elite Special Forces Duvdevan Unit, were searching the area for any leads to the terror cell who committed the attack.
Initial investigation raised two possible lines of inquiry - one of a drive-by shooting, and the other that it was an ambush which included an escape vehicle for the cell members.
This is the fourth attack in four days and the sixth terror attack since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan ten days ago.
Acting Samaria Regional Council head, Yossi Dagan, said after the attack: "Recently we've been witnessing a concerning increase in serious terror attacks: The stabbing of the soldier this morning at Rachel's Tomb, the shooting on the MDA ambulance on Highway 60 over the weekend, Molotov cocktail being thrown at buses, and the cold-blooded murder of Danny Gonen near Dolev.
We must stop this phenomenon before things deteriorate further. We will not allow terrorists to harm our citizens and we demand the Israeli government to allow the IDF to act without mercy against those savages who are turning civilians into targets. The term 'trickle' with regards to terrorism is a lie. We are not willing to get used to this situation in Judea and Samaria as it happens and has been happening for years with the rocket fire in the south."
Meanwhile, shortly after the attack, stones were thrown at an Israeli vehicle at the Hizma checkpoint on Highway 60. No one was hurt and security forces were searching the area for perpetrators.
On Monday morning, a Palestinian woman attacked a female IDF soldier, stabbing her in the neck at the Rachel checkpoint near Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem.
The attacker, 20-year-old Misoun Mussa from Bethlehem, was not known to security forces and does not have a criminal record.
Mussa was found to have two other knives on her person. During questioning by the Shin Bet, she said she arrived at the crossing to kill a soldier. The initial assessment was that she acted alone. West Bank shooting victim's 'life in danger'

Israeli forces as well have closed the 300 checkpoint which is the only route for Bethlehem West Bankers to reach Jerusalem.
Palestinian woman stabs female IDF soldier
Terror suspected after soldier stabbed in neck at security check; attacker arrested; soldier in serious condition.
A Palestinian woman on Monday stabbed a female soldier near Rachel Crossing, which leads to the Tomb of Rachel, apparently during a security check. The soldier was seriously wounded in the neck.
Security forces at the scene arrested the attacker. She is a resident of the territories and was found to have two other knives on her person.
MDA received a call at around 11 AM about the wounded soldier, who serves in the military police. Paramedics gave the soldier, who is around 20, medical treatment and evacuated her to Hadassah Medical Center.
Last weekend there were two security incidents in the West Bank. Before midnight on Saturday, a Magen David Adom ambulance was fired upon near the Beit El settlement. No one was hurt. After the attack, the IDF searched the nearby Palestinian village of Beitin.
A day earlier an attack in the Jordan Valley was thwarted . A Palestinian terrorist opened fire at soldiers at a checkpoint and was shot dead by reserve army forces about 30 kilometers south of Beit Shean. No soldier was injured in the attack, and the area was declared a closed military zone.
Early last week an 18-year-old Palestinian terrorist stabbed a border policeman at the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem. The policeman, who was severely injured, managed to shoot the terrorist and wounded him severely. Rescue forces called to the scene treated both of them and transported them to hospitals in the city. The policeman's condition markedly improved the next day.

Still Image - Palestine TV Report
Israeli soldiers invaded, on Sunday at dawn, Beiteen and Ein Yabroud villages, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, allegedly after shots were fired at an Israeli vehicle near the Beit El illegal settlement built on Palestinian lands belonging to al-Bireh city, and kidnapped three Palestinians.
The army kidnapped the three Palestinians, and turned Beiteen village into a closed military zone, especially due to its close proximity to Beit El.
More than 25 Israeli military vehicles invaded the village, imposed curfew forcing the residents under house arrest, and installed roadblocks completely sealing it, Ali Dar Ali of Palestine TV has reported.
The soldiers broke into and violently searched several homes in Beiteen and Ein Yabroud villages, and interrogated the families, before kidnapping three Palestinians in Beiteen.
The two villages remained surrounded, while dozens of soldiers were still deployed in and around them, until the time of this report.
In a newsflash, Israeli Ynet News claimed the shots were fired at an Israeli ambulance, causing no injuries.
Israeli vehicle attacked by gunmen near Ramallah
The Hebrew media claimed that an Israeli vehicle came under fire by Palestinians on Saturday night near Beit El settlement, east of Ramallah city.
The media explained that Palestinians opened fire at an Israeli ambulance as it was nearing the entrance to the settlement, noting that the vehicle sustained only material damage.
Consequently, the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided several Palestinian towns and villages to the north and east of Ramallah city, blocked roads, interrogated citizens and intercepted Palestinian cars for search.
A large number of Israeli troops stormed the towns of Silwad, Deir Dibwan and Beitin near Ramallah and assaulted citizens, according to local sources.
No arrests have been reported by citizens in these areas.
MDA Ambulance hit by gun fire in the West Bank
15 to 19 shots fired at a Magen David Adom ambulance near Beit El in the West Bank; driver escapes injury; Israeli forces search nearby village of Beitin.
Shots were fired Saturday before midnight at a Magen David Adom ambulance near the West Bank settlement of Beit El but no injuries were reportes as of Sunday afternoon.
The damage to the ambulance was clearly evident, apparently from 9mm bullets. After the incident Israeli forces launched searches for suspects in the nearby village of Beitin.
An examination of the scene of the attack near Beit El indicate that a burst of 15 to 19 shots were fired at the Israeli ambulance and at least four of them hit it. The perpetrator fired from the area near the new road that connects Beitin to Ramallah, a road recently paved for the Palestinians. Forces from the all-Haredi Netzach Yehuda Battalion, in charge of the area, led by Colonel Yisrael Shomer, were sent to the scene.
A large amount of soldiers began searching the area to locate the shooter or shooters. Some searched Beitin village south of Beit El. The area where the shooting occurred was closed to traffic for a time.
MDA Director General Eli Bin said in response: "Magen David Adom, the national rescue organization of Israel, consider this incident to be a grave one, which represents a crossing of the red line of trying to deliberately harm a vehicle which treats the wounded and sick, and does evacuations.'
"We are sure that the security forces working around the clock will utilize the justice system to the fullest regarding those responsible, and we hope the Palestinian side will act decisively and firmly in order to prevent similar incidents in the future."
A burst of bullets was fired from the bend in the road before the West Bank Division headquarters near the village of Beitin, at an ambulance from the Jerusalem district. The driver was paramedic Shalom Galil, a Beit El resident in charge of the Benjamin region of the West Bank.
The Beit El council blamed the security establishement which opened the road to Beitin to Palestinian traffic. "The road was closed for more than ten years due to security problems," council head Shai Alon said.
"When it was recently decided to reopen the road I warned the general commanding officer (GCO), the minister of defense, the transport minister and the coordinator of West Bank activities, of the security and traffic risks at the site. The GCO decided to reopen the road anyway, but already on Sunday there was a security incident which led to the road's closing," he added.
"This evening, the attacks originated from the road and the terrorists fled after attacking the ambulance, whose driver was not miraculously injured. The writing was on the wall, and we demand from the security establishment not to open the road, and to also shut its other end so that terrorists will not be able to approach Beit El and escape," he concluded.
