The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) fired artillery shells Wednesday morning at the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoun, few hours after a rocket landed in the Israeli city of Sderot.
Eyewitnesses affirmed that the shelling targeted a resistance training site east of Beit Hanoun north of Gaza. No injuries were reported during the attack.
On the other hand, Israeli sources claimed that two Israeli settlers have been treated for shock after a rocket fired from Gaza Strip landed in Sderot. Sderot Mayor Alon Davidi told Yediot Ahranot Hebrew newspaper that the rocket fell next to his house.
Palestinian resistance factions did not confirm or deny firing the rocket.

The Israeli army said the bombarded took place after a shell was fired from Gaza into Sderot town, in the Negev.
Israeli Ynet News said the shell caused no property damage, while a 15-year-old girl and a 60-year-old man “were treated for shock before they were moved to Barzelai Medical Center in Ashkelon.”

Israeli army announced Tuesday that one of its warplanes had "intercepted" an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) over the coast of the Gaza Strip.
According to an Israeli army statement, the unarmed UAV -- which, it claimed, belonged to Hamas’s armed wing Ezzedine al-Qassam Brigades -- had been under surveillance by the army from the moment it took off from the Gaza Strip.
While the army statement merely said the UAV had been "intercepted" by Israeli military aircraft, army spokesperson Ovijaa Odraei said that the drone had been shot down.
Odraei, however, declined to describe the alleged UAV in any detail. The Brigades has yet to comment on the Israeli army’s claims.

Rocket fired at Sderot, IDF retaliates
Sunday afternoon, a rocket was fired from the Gaza Strip and landed in Sderot, landing without causing injury between residents' houses; IDF responds in kind.
A Code Red rocket alert was sounded in Sderot and Sha'ar Hanegev just before 2:30pm on Sunday. Shortly afterwards, an explosion was heard, and a rocket was found between two residential houses in Sderot. There were no injuries or damage, though forces were immediately dispatched to the area.
In response, the Israeli Air Force attacked a Hamas military wing position in Beit Hanoun in the north Gaza Strip, and IDF tanks attacked further terrorist infrastructure. According to Palestinian sources, a 20-year-old man was lightly injured by shrapnel.
Palestinians also claimed that IDF tanks fired at a water tower in Beit Hanoun. However, the IDF has yet to confirm these reports.
Yaron, the owner of the home next to that that which was struck by the rocket recalled the incident as it unfolded: “A red alert was sounded. Obviously we all entered the bomb shelter. A big boom could be heard which was close by, “ he said. “We came out and saw smoke and dust in the air. That is when we understood that it was close.”
Yaron also said that one year ago, a rocket exploded on his home: “It is extremely concerning at the moment. It is getting closer again.”
Hamas is evacuating all its outposts and security facilities in the Strip out of fear of further reprisals from Israeli forces. This is standard practice after rockets are fired from Gaza to Israel.
The rocket, which was fired from the north of the Gaza Strip, is the third to have been launched since the end of Operation Protective Edge and is the second to have landed in Israel in two months.

The first order that Avigdor Liberman gave when he entered the Army Ministry in Tel Aviv, was to complete an operative plan to defeat Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israel Pulse news site reported.
Israel's new Army Minister Avigdor Lieberman asked Israeli senior officers to draft a military plan to topple Hamas rule in Gaza, commentator Ben Caspit wrote.
“Lieberman does believe that the Gaza Strip is ready to overthrow Hamas,” said Caspit. “The group’s standing among the general population is being challenged, and quite a few of the local clans and tribes are already seeking an alternative.”
“Lieberman believes that Hamas is the ultimate evil. As such, its regime must be brought down, and its growing stock of rockets, within touching distance of the southern city of Ashkelon, must be eliminated,” the article further read.
According to the same source, the army minister believes that if Israel doesn’t do that now, within just a few years it will have another Hezbollah on its hands.
“That is why Lieberman has instructed the Israeli (occupation) forces to prepare an operational plan to defeat and overthrow Hamas in the next round of fighting,” Caspit further noted.
