The frail ceasefire declared in Gaza yesterday morning between Israel and the Islamic Jihad was relatively holding except for periodic interruptions of rockets fired from Gaza into Israel and Israeli airstrikes on Gaza in the evening and early this morning without causing any human casualties, according to reports.
Several rockets were fired into Israel in the evening last night prompting a new round of Israeli airstrikes on several locations in the Gaza Strip causing damage but no serious injuries.
Reports said the airstrikes were concentrated on the south of the Gaza Strip, mainly Khan Younis and Rafah.
A total of 34 Palestinians, including eight children and three women, were killed and more than 100 were injured in three days of Israeli airstrikes that ended with a ceasefire that went into effect early yesterday morning.
The new round of violence in Gaza started after Israel assassinated a top Islamic Jihad leader in Gaza. Gaza factions retaliated with a barrage of rocket fire into Israel that did not leave any injuries.
Life was gradually getting back to normal in Gaza following the ceasefire with schools and work called to resume on Saturday.

Two Palestinians were injured in new Israeli airstrikes in the southern Gaza Strip, Days of Palestine reported, quoting local sources.
Israel occupation warplanes attacked a resistance site west of Khan Younis, as well as targeting agricultural lands northwest of Rafah city, in the southern besieged Gaza Strip.
The new airstrikes came just hours after the ceasefire was declared, when 5 rockets were reportedly fired from the Gaza Strip.
In the Israeli aggression, the warplanes killed 34 Palestinians, injured 109 others, and destroyed dozens of homes.

Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Riyad Malki, strongly criticized a statement by Nickolay Mladenov, on Israel’s latest aggression against Gaza, accusing him of covering up the Israeli occupation crimes by blaming the Palestinian people for these crimes.
In a press statement, Malki condemned the language used by Mladenov, the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, in his statement Wednesday, in which he ignored the field execution and premeditated and extrajudicial killing of Palestinian families, some of whom were completely annihilated, he Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.
“Mladenov’s statement misleads the international public opinion and the United Nations and its honorable mission to uphold and respect international law by describing the situation as an issue of escalation between a Palestinian faction, or an issue of indiscriminate launching of rockets and mortars, as he put it, to ‘undermine the efforts to improve the dire socio-economic conditions’ in Gaza, ignoring the occupation and its continuous systematic and broad crimes against our people, and also ignoring the reports issued by the United Nations committees investigating the crimes that undoubtedly prove the crimes of the occupation against our people,” Malki asserted.
He called on Mladenov to abide by his mandate as a representative of the United Nations, and “stop issuing such misleading statements that are contrary to the positions, reports and resolutions of the United Nations.”

Iron Dome brings down rockets over Sderot on Thursday night
Iron Dome intercepts rockets over Sderot in fresh truce violation; schools to stay closed in Ashkelon, Sderot and Gaza border areas Friday; Gazans call for fresh rocket fire as Islamic Jihad spokesman says fighters still have 'fingers on trigger'
The residents of southern Israel braced for another night of rocket fire Thursday, after rockets fired from Gaza kept coming in violation of the ceasefire that came into effect in the early hours of the morning.
Sirens sounded in Sderot and the Gaza border community of Shaar HaNegev at around 10pm. The Iron Dome missile defense system brought down two rockets over Sderot.
Fearing such truce breaches, Sderot municipality and local councils in the Gaza border area decided Thursday evening that local schools will remain closed Friday, despite a directive from the IDF Home Front Command to return to normal following the ceasefire with Islamic Jihad.
The city of Ashkelon said late Thursday that its schools would also remain closed Friday due to the ongoing rocket fire.
Meanwhile, demonstrations against the ceasefire took place in the northern Gaza Strip on Thursday evening.
The Gaza border communities have come under several rocket barrages after the ceasefire went into effect at 5:30am Thursday.
"Following the rocket sirens in the area, the forum of the heads of the Gaza border councils decided that tomorrow (Friday) there will be no studies at any educational institutions in the councils surrounding Gaza," the heads of the local authorities said in a joint statement.
"We are in contact with the IDF and are monitoring developments," the statement said, adding that, "The decision was made out of concern for students and educational staff."
The decision was met however with outrage from some local residents.
"It's the wrong decision that impacts adversely on our resilience, it's a surrender to terrorism," they said.
In northerm Gaza, protesters took to the streets following a spontaneous social media drive to call for continued rocket strikes on Israeli population centers.
Abu Hamza, the spokesman for the Islamic Jihad military wing, said Thursday evening: "Our fighters in all military units still have their fingers on the trigger and are functioning in an integrated military system. They are at the disposal of the organization's leadership."
The fragile ceasefire has been violated by Gaza militants several times since it came into effect. At 5:23pm, sirens were heard in the regional councils Sdeot Negev, Eshkol and Shaar HaNegev. Iron Dome intercepted one rocket, and there were no injuries or damage reported.
At 10:54 am, five rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israeli communities bordering the Strip. Iron Dome intercepted two of them.
In this case, too, there were no injuries or damage.
Between 6am and 7am, several more rockets were fired from the Gaza Strip into the Gaza-area communities, also without causing casualties or damage.
After a situation assessment, the IDF Southern Command and the Home Front Command decided Thursday afternoon to remove all the restrictions on the Gaza border area, such as limits to public gatherings.
The army also decided to return to regular routine at the Erez and Kerem Shalom crossings into Gaza and restore the fishing zone for Palestinians to 15 nautical miles off the Gaza coast.
The violence began early Tuesday, with a predawn Israeli strike in Gaza that killed Islamic Jihad commander Baha Abu al-Ata. The organization vowed revenge and while Hamas expressed its solidarity, by Wednesday night it had yet to engage in the fighting.
The rocket attacks on Israel followed soon after Abu al-Ata's killing, and on Tuesday the south and large parts of the center of the country came close to a standstill as schools were closed and all non-essential workers were told to stay home or near a bomb shelter.
Rockets were intercepted by Iron Dome as far north as Tel Aviv, with attacks also targeting nearby cities of Holon and Rishon Lezion.
The army said Thursday that the missile defense system had had a 93% success rate.

Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, has affirmed that the Palestinian resistance’s rockets hit the heart of Israel, but the latter imposed a news blackout on reporting any details regarding the losses and destruction caused by Palestinian rocket fire.
“The resistance’s missiles and rockets reached the heart of the Zionist entity and if the enemy talked about that, Netanyahu would be mocked and scoffed at by the Zionist street,” spokesman for al-Quds Brigades Abu Hamza said in Twitter remarks.
“The enemy is imposing very tight control on what has happened so as not to see the settlers go on marches against Netanyahu and his war minister and their alleged victory and false illusion turn into a crushing defeat sending Netanyahu to prison instead of forming a new government,” Abu Hamza added.
The spokesman defied the Israeli army leadership to reveal photos and videos that show the extent of the destruction that the Palestinian resistance had inflicted on buildings and infrastructure in Israeli areas.

An Egyptian-brokered ceasefire agreement was reportedly reached between the Palestinian resistance and Israel, and already came into effect at 05:30 am on Thursday, November 14.
No official sources have confirmed the news yet, but al-Jazeera satellite channel quoted unnamed sources as saying that the Islamic Jihad Movement and Israel accepted an Egyptian request for a ceasefire starting today morning.
The reported agreement came about four hours following an Israeli massacre that claimed the lives of six citizens from one family and injured 12 others in central Gaza.
The local newspaper al-Hadath also quoted a spokesman for Islamic Jihad Musab al-Bareem as saying that a ceasefire deal took effect after the Israeli occupation state acquiesced to the Palestinian resistance’s terms.
“This agreement has taken place after the resistance said its word, confronted the aggression, broke Netanyahu’s arrogance and defended the Palestinian people,” spokesman Bareem added.
He affirmed that the ceasefire deal was reached on the basis of conditions made by Islamic Jihad on behalf of the resistance factions, which demanded Israeli pledges to stop assassinations, refrain from targeting the participants in the March of Return rallies and start taking steps to end the siege on Gaza.

Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, on Tuesday claimed responsibility for targeting a group of Israeli soldiers with mortar shells at a military post in the east of Rafah province, south of the Gaza Strip.
In a communiqué, al-Quds Brigades said its fighters launched a mortar attack on a gathering of Israeli soldiers behind al-Matbaq military post in eastern Rafah.
The Brigades affirmed that there were casualties among the soldiers, adding that army helicopters landed in the area and carried out evacuations.
“The resistance has the right to confront any Zionist aggression against its people, and we are determined to uphold the option of resistance and struggle until the liberation of our entire land,” the Brigades underlined.
The Israeli occupation started at dawn Tuesday a new round of military escalation against Gaza by assassinating senior Islamic Jihad commander Bahaa Abul-Ata and his wife.

The Israeli occupation started at dawn Tuesday a new round of military escalation against Gaza by assassinating senior Islamic Jihad commander Bahaa Abul-Ata and his wife.

Israel resumed its extrajudicial execution policy against Palestinians, as Israeli warplanes carried out a targeted attacks, one against a senior leader of a Palestinian resistance group at dawn, Tuesday.
As a result, the targeted Palestinian was killed along with his wife, while 7 others sustained injuries including 4 of the victims’ children in the attack on their house in al-Shuja’ya neighborhood in Eastern Gaza.
This attack reflects a decision by the highest Israeli military and political offices, PCHR reported.
According to PCHR investigation, at approximately 04:00 on Tuesday, IOF warplanes fired a missile at Bahaa’ Salim Hassan Abulatta’s house.
Abulatta, 42, member of the al-Quds Brigades’ military bureau, the armed wing of the Islamic Jihad movement, in charge of its northern Gaza Strip activity.
Abulatta and his wife, Asmaa’ Mohammed Hassan Abulatta, 38, were killed in their apartment, on the second floor of a residential building.
Furthermore, 7 others sustained shrapnel wounds in the airstrike, including 4 of the victims’ children: Salim, 19; Mohammed, 18; Fatima al-Zahra’, 13; Layan, 11; two women from the neighborhood: Hanan Shehda Mohyaldeen Helles, 26; Shereen Fouad Khalil Helles, 21; and Mahmoud Fouad Abdulrahman Abulatta’s bodyguard.
The injuries were reported to be minor and moderate.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) and the Israeli Security Agency (Shin Bet) announced in a press statement by military spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, that the targeted attack against prominent Islamic Jihad Leader in Gaza was a joint operation between the Israeli military and the intelligence services.
He also reiterated that Israeli Prime Minister and Defence Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, authorized the attack, which is the first extrajudicial execution carried out by Israeli airstrikes since the 2014 Israeli offensive against the Gaza Strip.
The Gaza attack was simultaneous with another targeted airstrike by Israeli warplanes against Islamic Jihad Political Bureau member, Akram al- ‘Ajoury, in the Syrian capital, Damascus. According to Islamic Jihad press release and Syrian media, al- ‘Ajoury’s son was killed in the attack.
Today’s attacks are worrying signs of a larger escalation against the Gaza Strip, as precedented in similar Israeli attacks that Palestinian armed groups responded to with a rain of retaliatory rocket fire at Israeli settlements and cities, as is the scenario today.
IOF warplanes carried out multiple airstrikes on various targets in the Gaza Strip, some located within densely populated areas, causing great damage and destruction. PCHR teams and fieldworkers are working around the clock to document and investigate each incident.
An Israeli missile targeted and destroyed a residential apartment on the third floor of Khayal Building, on al-Rasheed Street; no injuries were reported.
Another missile hit the Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR) office in Harara Building in Gaza City center, causing grave damage.
The missile hit the 5th floor of the Gaza office, destroying it. The floor was empty as all staff were in a meeting on the sixth floor, which sustained partial damage on the eastern side. Bahjat Ibrahim al-Helou, Head of ICHR Training and Awareness Unit, sustained wounds due to shattering glass.
PCHR team will continue to document, investigate and report on all airstrikes and attacks.
PCHR reminds and stresses that it is always Palestinian civilians who pay the price for the Israeli attacks and military escalations and warns that this policy retains 2 million Palestinian hostages to aggression, fear, anxiety and direct targeting.
Palestinian Government Press announced the activation of the emergency state in all government office, and suspension of education until further notice.
Additionally, in another act under the Israeli policy of collective punishment against Palestinians, IOF closed Kerm Shalom Commercial Crossing, east Rafah, which is Gaza’s only crossing for goods; and Beit Hanoun “Erez” Crossing, in northern Gaza, dedicated for movement of individuals.
IOF also announced reducing the fishing area to 6 nautical miles until further notice, according to Major General Kamil Abu Rokon, Coordinator of the Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), justified by the security situation in Gaza.
PCHR strongly condemns the Israeli extrajudicial execution policy against Palestinian activists and expresses its concern for a dramatic deterioration of the security situation, warning that the situation is susceptible to a deterioration on all aspects.
As such, PCHR:
Reminds all parties of the need to protect protected civilians under the international humanitarian law (IHL), especially that Gaza Strip civilians and their property have been subjected to direct targeting by IOF in grave violations of the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949, that amount to war crimes.
Calls upon the international community to move immediately and urgently to pressure Israel to cease its attacks against Palestinians and to remind it of its obligations under international law, especially the 4th Geneva Convention of 1949.

The Arab League condemned the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip, Tuesday, in which 10 Palestinians were killed and 45 wounded.
In a statement, the Arab League declared that “this aggression comes in continuation of a series of crimes committed by the Israeli occupation,” the Palestinian News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported.
The League held the Israeli government responsible for this aggression with all its consequences, stressing that the Israeli army committed horrific crimes on Tuesday.
“This comes in the context of exposed Israeli attempts to let the Palestinian people pay the price of the predicaments and agendas of Israeli parties,” the statement said.
It continued, saying that “Israel wants to push the situation in the besieged Gaza Strip to further deterioration and to drag the region into violence and turmoil that will exceed the region, to threaten international peace and security.”
The Arab League called for international intervention to provide the Palestinian people with international protection, and stop any further Israeli crimes.
Earlier in the day, Israeli airstrikes killed a senior Islamic Jihad commander and his wife while they slept in their home in Gaza city.
