Itamar Ben Gal
On Monday, Israeli forces carried out a wide-scale search campaign in several villages and towns located to the north of Salfit, blocked roads and declared these areas to be closed military zones following the killing of an Israeli colonist settler near the Israeli settlement of Ariel, according to local sources.
Israeli sources said that the settler has been identified as Itamar Ben Gal, a 29-year-old teacher, from the of Har Bracha colony, in the northern West Bank.
The person who allegedly killed the settler was identified by Israeli forces as 19-year old Abdul-Hakim Asi. The Israeli military said that a number of soldiers chased the 19-year old, and two military vehicles hit the young man before he managed to flee the scene.
According to Israeli sources, surveillance video shows the assailant getting off of a shared taxi near the entrance to Ariel, the largest Israeli settlement in the West Bank. The assailant then allegedly approached Ben Gal, who was standing at a hitchhiking post for Israeli settlers, and stabbed him several times before fleeing.
Ben Gal taught at two religious Jewish seminaries, both of them located in illegal Israeli settlements: one in Gival Smuel, and the other in Har Bracha settlement, according to the Israeli daily Haaretz.
Ben Gal was transferred to hospital, with critical injuries in his upper extremities, where he succumbed to his wounds shortly after.

Abdul-Hakim Asi
The Israeli daily, Haaretz, reported the Abdul-Hakim’s mother is from Haifa, while his father is from Nablus, in the northern West Bank.
People who have one parent from inside Israel and the other from the West Bank are often denied residency, and are forced to live with one parent in the West Bank, which is considered ‘second class status’ by Israeli law.
Inside Israel, the government is nominally considered a democracy, whereas the Israeli military rules the occupied West Bank with martial law.
In the aftermath of the fatal stabbing, dozens of Israeli paramilitary settlers gathered along roads in the area around Salfit, and the entrances to the villages of Hares and Kifl Hares, and attacked passing Palestinian cars with stones.
Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu issued a statement following the death of the settler, saying that Israeli military forces “are in pursuit of the murderers. We will exact our judgment.”
The Hamas party also issued a statement, saying the attack is a direct response to Donald Trump’s unilateral declaration of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel — a declaration that effectively denies the existence of over a million Palestinians who live in Jerusalem.

Israeli colonial settlers have reportedly assaulted Palestinians and journalists, during a sit-in protest in solidarity with child detainees, in the southern occupied West Bank city of Hebron.
WAFA reported, according to Ma’an, that under the protection of Israeli forces, dozens of Israeli settlers from nearby settlement physically and verbally assaulted residents, journalists and children during the sit-in.
Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law.
The Palestinian government has no jurisdiction over Israelis in the West Bank, and acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli military forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.
The majority of settler attacks committed against Palestinians are met with impunity, with Israelis rarely facing consequences for such thefts.
Only 1.9 percent of complaints submitted by Palestinians against Israeli settler attacks or theft result in a conviction.
Yesh Din, along with Israeli rights group B’Tselem, have previously condemned Israeli authorities for failing to protect Palestinians from settlers violence or investigate attacks.

Dozens of Israeli settlers stormed on Sunday morning Jerusalem’s al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam—via the Maghareba Gate.
Hordes of Israeli settlers, escorted by policemen, broke into al-Aqsa Mosque as part of the morning break-in shift and carried out a round of sacrilegious tours. Dozens more are expected to show up at the site in the next few hours.
Israeli police troops have been stationed at the site since predawn time to protect the settlers.
The Muslim worshipers raised fears that the site would be turned into a military barrack after Israeli police troops intensified their presence at and around the site.
At the same time, the peaceful Muslim worshipers have been subjected to tough crackdowns and restrictions by the Israeli police near the main entrances to the site. Several worshipers have been searched and dozens more have had their IDs seized while attempting to enter al-Aqsa to perform their daily prayers.

A number of extremist Israeli settlers attacked on Thursday the Hasan Bek Mosque in Jaffa, in Palestinian territories occupied in 1948.
The mosque’s imam (preacher), Ahmed Ajwa, said an anonymous settler speaking Hebrew came within the reach of the mosque and yelled racist anti-Muslim offenses, before he threw an empty bottle filled with a suspect substance toward the main entrance gate.
According to Ajwa, this assault has not been the first of its kind as similar such assaults have been carried out over recent years.
Ajwa noted that mosques in Jaffa have been under continuous assaults at the hands of Israeli settler gangs who have been given the green light from the official Israeli institutions.
He called on the Palestinians in Jaffa to intensify their presence at the mosque so as to defend it against Israel’s sacrilegious aggressions.
According to a number of Muslim worshipers in the area, the assault is completely related to the Israeli attacks on Islamic holy sites across the occupied Palestinian territories, including on al-Aqsa Mosque.
“This aggression is a proof of the racist and barbaric Israeli mentality, which is increasing among the settler community. This is an aggression on the right to freely perform religious rituals,” said a Muslim worshiper.
