A group of Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian farmer and his wife while they were picking olives on their private land south of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank on Wednesday.
The local Palestinian official who monitors settlement-related activities in the northern West Bank, Ghassan Daghlas, reported that a number of settlers attacked Tayseer Sabah, 50, and his wife while they were picking olives on their land in the outskirts of the village of Urif, which is just a few kilometers away from Yitzhar settlement.
The farmer suffered different injuries all over his body, while his wife suffered bruises.
Following the attack, violent clashes broke out between local residents and Israeli settlers, who were protected by Israeli soldiers.
According to Daghlas, the attack came on the first day of the olive harvest season this year in the area.
Violent acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.
The majority of settlers' attacks committed against Palestinians are met with impunity, as those settlers rarely face consequences for such attacks.

Extremist Israeli settlers have stepped up assaults against Palestinian farmers across Hawara’s olive groves, south of the occupied West Bank province of Nablus.
Head of the West Bank department at Rabbis for Human Rights, Zakaria Sadah, said dozens of Israeli settlers violently attacked Palestinian farmers on Monday evening while they were picking olives in their groves northwest of Hawara town.
The Israeli army forced the Palestinians out of their farmlands after they ruled that all olive-picking activities in the area be immediately halted.
Palestinian local Monawar Abu Zaher sounded the alarm over the heavy damage wrought by such Israeli assaults on Palestinians’ olive harvest, adding that thousands of olive trees have not received proper care for over ten years and are, thus, on the verge of collapse.

Israeli settlers ruined on Monday morning a water pipe used by Palestinian farmers in the village of Sakout, in the northern Jordan Valley, according to a local official.
In a press statement, the official of settlement in the area Mutaz Besharat said a group of settlers escorted by Israeli forces destroyed the water pipe that was recently installed by Palestinian farmers in the area to irrigate their crops.
The village is located in Area C of the West Bank, which is under full Israeli military and administrative control. Palestinian residents in that area are often harassed and attacked by Israeli settlers, who repeatedly carry out their violations in the presence of Israeli military forces.
Israeli practices in the Jordan Valley are aimed at pushing the Palestinians out of the Jordan Valley district using all means in order to replace them with Jewish settlers.

A group of extremist Jewish settlers on Saturday morning assaulted Abu Rajab family in the Old City of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank.
The PIC reporter said that the settlers were dancing in groups in front of the house of Ali Abu Rajab al-Tamimi which has been already taken over by settlers several months ago. They entered the home to join other settlers who were already inside.
This provoked the house owner who accordingly, along with other members of the family, confronted the settlers. As a result, he was assaulted and slightly injured at the hands of the extremist Jewish settlers, the PIC reporter added.
Israeli occupation forces rushed to the scene to offer protection for the attacking settlers and totally ignored their assault on the family members.

Hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed a local shrine in Nablus, triggering clashes with Palestinians
Israeli forces rounded up 17 Palestinians in overnight raids across the occupied West Bank on Wednesday as settlers forced their way into a local shrine in the occupied territory amid clashes with Palestinian youth.
In a statement, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society said Israeli forces raided several homes in the cities of Bethlehem, Tulkarem and Jenin, detaining 17 Palestinians.
The Israeli army has yet to confirm the raids.
Israeli forces frequently carry out sweeping arrest campaigns across the West Bank that ostensibly target Palestinians "wanted" by Israeli authorities.
According to official Palestinian statistics, Israel is holding about 6,500 Palestinian prisoners, most of them residents of the occupied West Bank.
Meanwhile, hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed a local shrine in the West Bank city of Nablus on Wednesday, triggering clashes with Palestinian protesters.
According to eyewitnesses, Israeli soldiers fired teargas and rubber bullets to disperse angry Palestinians who had gathered to protest the storming at Joseph's Tomb, a holy site venerated by both Muslims and Jews.
“At least 500 Jewish settlers forced their way into the shrine and performed Talmudic rituals under the protection of Israeli forces,” Ahmed Shamekh, chairman of the services committee at the nearby Balata refugee camp, told Anadolu Agency.
According to Shamekh, dozens of Palestinian youths had gathered to protest the move, but were dispersed by Israeli soldiers.
He said two Palestinians were injured by rubber bullets, while two dozen suffered teargas inhalation.

The Israeli army on Tuesday evening backtracked on a news story attributing a shooting attack on a Palestinian and his sister near Halamish settlement to a preplanned car-ramming attempt.
The fact that the occupation army has changed its version regarding the shooting attack, which left 26-year-old Mohamed Mousa dead and his sister severely injured, corroborates the version released by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR).
According to investigations conducted by PCHR and eyewitnesses, at approximately 09:30 on Tuesday, 31 October 2017, Mohamed Abdullah Ali Mousa (26), from Deir Balout village, west of Salfit, was driving his car with an Israeli registration plate. Mohamed was along with his sister Latifa (33), heading to Ramallah. The car arrived at the iron gate established at the entrance to al-Nabi Saleh village. The Israeli forces stationed there ordered Mohamed to stop as it seems they suspected the car. Mohamed sped up towards the intersection of “Halamish” settlement entrance, which is 200 meters away from the entrance.
PCHR added that when Mohamed drove the car away from the intersection, an Israeli settler fired live bullets, which penetrated the car’s windshield. As a result, Mohamed was hit with a live bullet which entered his chest from the right side and exited the waist. Mohamed was then taken by an Israeli ambulance to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva City in Israel. Few Minutes later, Israeli doctors at the hospital declared his death.
Moreover, Mohamed’s sister, Latifa, was hit with a live bullet to the left shoulder and then taken to Istishari Arab Hospital in al-Rihan suburb, north of Ramallah, to receive medical treatment.
Israeli forces claimed that the car driven by Mousa was speeding up towards the soldiers stationed at the entrance to the abovementioned settlement, so they thought that Mousa was attempting to carry out a run-over attack. Hours later, the occupation army rescinded the latter version.
