Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) disrupted on Saturday a marsh organized by the people of Jaba town to the north of al-Khalil city. The IOF soldiers closed a high way as well.
Local sources told the PIC reporter that hundreds of the town’s inhabitants took to the streets around the town’s entrance in protest against Israeli deliberate lowering of water pressure in the town.
This has minimised water flow in the town’s houses as Israel has been lowering water pressure for two months.
The demonstrators chanted against Israeli aggressive policies practiced in the towns and cities of the occupied West Bank.
In a similar context, IOF soldiers closed the main road connecting Bethlehem and al-Khalil in northern al-Khalil.
PIC reporter revealed that IOF soldiers barred the Palestinian vehicles to pass through Gush Etzion conjunction and forced them to use bypasses near Biet Fujjar town.

Today, in Beit Ummar, just north of Al Khalil (Hebron), Israeli forces broke the arm of local activist Yousif Abu Maria, and then arrested him. Yousif was protesting with a group of around 30 local Palestinian activists outside an illegal Israeli settlement. While the police and military attempted to arrest Yousif he was subjected to excessive violence that resulted in his arm being broken. Israeli occupation forces continued to violently arrest him even though his cries of pain were obvious.
At 10.30 am the group drove to the gate of the Beit Al Baraka building. Roughly four years ago the old hospital and church complex was purchased by the right-wing Israeli Zionist group, Israeli Land Fund, under the guise of a Christian refurbishment organisation. Aryeh King, director and founder of Israeli Land Fund, had brought the property to support the illegal expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank. |
On reaching the complex the Palestinian activists marched to the front gate chanting for a free Palestine.
The Palestinians were joined by many Israeli and international activists. Seconds after arriving over 20 boarder police, police and military, quickly surrounded the group. The occupation forces then began pushing people back with their rifles. Yousif was injured and thrown to the floor. An Israeli activists then attempted to pull him away from the violence, but was also assaulted and pepper sprayed in the eyes. Both Yousif and the Israeli activists were dragged away to the military jeeps parked near by, but Yousif was then arrested and the Israeli activists was released without any repercussions.
A large amount of sound grenades were also used. Around 20 of the heavy metal grenades were thrown, some directly at protesters causing superficial injuries. After forcing all protesters to move away from the fenced off complex, Israeli police then questioned and checked the ID’s of many of the activists.
The Palestinian group finished the protest with the promise to return and continue to use non-violent action to resist the expansion of illegal settlements that both annex Palestinian land illegally and are detrimental for the economy and existence of Palestinian communities. After an increase in Israeli military and police presence over the past two months around the Al Baraka building, the residents of Beit Ummar worry that, if occupied by settlers, the complex will lead to further disruption of the entire region.

Israeli forces, on Saturday, detained one Palestinian and three foreign activists during a protest against Israeli settlement expansion near Beit Ummar, in the southern West Bank.
Israeli forces injured other activists when they dispersed a sit-in at Beit al-Baraka on the Jerusalem-Hebron road near Beit Ummar, where local activists report that Israeli settlers are trying to seize 40 dunams of Palestinian land and have started construction.
The Palestinian detained was identified as Yousef Abu Maria, while the names of the foreign activists were not reported.
A Palestinian activist, Muhammed Brijieh, told Ma'an News Agency that Israeli forces had fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades at the protest, causing a number to suffer excessive tear gas inhalation.
Popular resistance committees also organized a peaceful march on Saturday to protect Beit al-Baraka, which was reportedly attended by dozens of Palestinian and foreign activists.

Israeli soldiers attacked, Saturday, scores of Palestinian and international peace activists protesting in front of the Al-Baraka home, near the main Jerusalem-Hebron Road, north of the southern West bank city of Hebron, and kidnapped one Palestinian.
The soldiers kidnapped Yousef Abu Mariya, 45, of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements, after attacking him, and took him to an unknown destination.
The protesters marched carrying Palestinian flags and chanting against the ongoing illegal Israeli settlement activities that aim at controlling more Palestinian property and farmlands.
Soldiers attacked the protesters as they marched demanding the removal of extremist Israeli settlers who controlled on old church property, that was constructed as a free tuberculosis treatment center, known as Beit al-Baraka (House of Blessing) more than 70 years ago on 35 Dunams; it shut down in 1983.
Coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements Rateb Jabour said the soldiers attacked the protesters, and tried to prevent them from reaching the site, but they managed to advance.
He added that the protest came to express rejection to Israel’s illegal policies and violations against the Palestinians in different parts of occupied Palestine, especially in areas close to illegal Israeli colonies, built on Palestinian property and lands.
It is worth mentioning that a Swedish lawyer, who represents Beit al-Baraka, denied Israeli allegations that the settlers have purchased the property and the lands around it.
The lawyer said the recent maintenance and construction work in the place is part of the owners’ decision to turn the property into a hotel and park, not a settlement. The settler named the property Bet Bracha.
More than a week ago, Israeli newspaper, Ha'aretz, right-wing settler, Aryeh King, has allegedly purchased a compound of an abandoned church, three years ago, and started working on it to create a new outpost.
The new settlement is meant to house at least 20 families in the already refurbished eight buildings, including a large commons structure.
Ha'aretz said that the settlers have been conducting massive reconstruction for the last several months, and built a fence around the compound, challenging an order by the Civil Administration Office in the Occupied West Bank, as no permit was issued for the fence.

The
Arab League condemned, Wednesday, the latest Israeli bombardment of
different parts of the Gaza Strip, and said that the “extremist Israeli
government is trying to make excuses for its new war on the coastal
enclave.”
Arab League Secretary General, Ahmad Ben Hilli, stated that the Arab League believes that the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is escalating the situation in order to obstruct international efforts, meant to ensure the resumption of direct political talks.
The official added that the International Community knows that Israel is obstructing peace talks, and continuously rejects initiatives meant for boosting the talks and reaching a peaceful solution.
Ben Hilli also said that Israel continues to violate international legitimacy resolutions, and the demands of the international community to end this occupation, stop the illegal settlement activities, and reach a comprehensive solution to the conflict.
The Gaza Strip remains largely in ruins since Israel’s onslaught in the summer of last year that left more than 2400 Palestinians, including 578 children and infants, 264 women and 103 elderly dead, while around 11000, including 3374 children, 2088 women and 410 elderly, have been injured, and many more died of their wounds later.
The promised reconstruction of dozens of thousands of homes, public facilities and infrastructure that were targeted by Israel remains unfulfilled due to ongoing Israeli restrictions, and its deadly siege on Gaza.
