After a military and security session to evaluate the situation in the Gaza Strip, especially in the aftermath of the killing of seven Hamas fighters in an undercover offensive in Gaza, also leading to the death of one soldier, Israel has decided to significantly boost its military deployment along the border with the coastal region.
Hamas said it is ready for any possible scenario, but added it is not interest in war.
The meeting took place between Israeli Army Chief of Staff, Gadi Eisenkot, and the head of the Internal Israeli Security Agency Nadav Argaman, along with senior Israeli military leaders.
Eisenkot said that the “operation the army carried out in Gaza, Sunday, carried a significant importance to Israel’s security.”
The decision was made to increase the military deployment along the Gaza border areas, and to remain in high alert in case of any deterioration on the ground.
Meanwhile, Ismael Radwan, a senior political leader of Hamas said the movement has no interest in a war with Israel, but is ready for all scenarios “in case a war was waged on Gaza.”
It is worth mentioning that the Palestinian Police and security forces in the Gaza Strip have enacted a series of security measures in all parts of the coastal enclave, and deployed hundreds of officers in addition to installing security roadblocks on many roads, in addition to searching dozens of cars.
The Ministry of Interior in Gaza called on the Palestinians to fully cooperate with the officers and security measures, and to refrain from publishing any unofficial and rumored information related to the fatal Israeli attack which took place in Khuza’a area, east of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.
On its part, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas said it is investigating the Israeli infiltration not Gaza, and the killing seven of its fighters, including two senior leaders.
Al-Qassam added that the “criminal enemy is responsible for this serious crime, and will pay a heavy price for that.”
It also said the resistance will always remain ready, and that “the enemy will not enjoy peace and security in our homeland,” and vowed that the “blood of the slain fighters will not be spilled in vain.”

Defense minister criticizes fellow ministers, saying they are 'deluded' for thinking an arrangement with Hamas is possible; 'without delivering the hardest blow we can, we won't restore the quiet or the calm to the south,' he insists.
Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman criticized his fellow Security Cabinet ministers on Monday for backing efforts to reach an arrangement with Hamas instead of delivering a strong blow to the Gaza terror organization.
"Anyone who counts on an arrangement with Hamas is greatly mistaken," Lieberman said at a meeting of his Yisrael Beytenu faction. "My stance on the situation in the south is clear and well known, but unfortunately some members of Cabinet are deluded, and we already know from the past where such delusions lead."
Arguing Israel doesn't have to wait for the next flare-up on the Gaza border, the defense minister insisted that "There's no way to reach an arrangement with Hamas, and without delivering the hardest blow we can, we won't restore the quiet or the calm to the south."
"The majority of the Cabinet doesn't think as I do," he lamented. "I think that we should've already delivered such a blow several months ago."
Lieberman insisted the IDF has already presented the Security Cabinet with operative plans, quipping that anyone who claims otherwise, "I volunteer to buy him a pair of glasses and hearing aids."
"The Gaza border communities' residents are 100 percent right. This situation has been going on for seven months. We've exhausted all options. Nevertheless, some 40 rockets were launched at southern Israel over the past weekend, and this clearly cannot continue," Lieberman said in reference to the residents' protests that took place on Sunday over the rocket barrage fired at the Gaza border communities overnight Friday.
"My demand is clear—we cannot agree to the equation Hamas is attempting to create. They cannot continue receiving Qatari fuel and resort to violence at the same time, and this is why we have to use other measures.
"There is no need for a ground operation in Gaza, since we have enough means to restore calm without it. Even if we kill 40,000 Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists it is not worth losing one Israeli soldier," the defense minister stated.
Zionist Union Chairman Avi Gabbay said during his faction meeting that "The residents of the south have been living under constant rocket fire and Netanyahu remains silent. For the Gaza border communities' residents every weekend is a gamble—will riots erupt? Will rockets be fired or only 'several fires' will spark? Will houses be ruined or 'only a few people will suffer from anxiety'? Will Code Red alerts will sound or only black smoke will cover the skies?
"Hamas is playing the Russian roulette with the residents of the south, and Netanyahu says nothing," Gabbay concluded.

The Israeli Air Fore carried out, overnight, dozens of strikes targeting many areas in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The army said it attacked eighty “Hamas targets” in the costal region, after 30 shells were fired from Gaza into adjacent Israeli area. The army said the strikes against Gaza were carried out by dozens of fighter jets, and other types of army aircrafts, Israeli daily Haaretz has reported. It added that, according to the army, two of the bombarded buildings in Gaza were used to “manufacture weapons,” in addition to “five military compounds,” and a building used by Hamas’s “general security forces.” Haaretz also quoted the military saying that the Iron Dome missile defense system managed to intercept eleven shells that were fired from Gaza, into |
Israeli areas, south of the country. Media sources in Gaza said that among the bombarded targets was a four-story building under construction in the center of Gaza city.
They added that the building was completely destroyed, while the missiles’ impacts also caused damage to several surrounding homes, before ambulances and firefighters rushed to aid the civilians.
The army also fired missiles at a site, which they claimed was run by an armed resistance group, close to the Indonesian Hospital in Beit Lahia, in northern Gaza.
The Health Ministry in Gaza said doctors and hospital workers had to remove many patients from their rooms, and place them in hallways, in fear of further attacks. In addition, the army carried out seventeen airstrikes targeting one site, used by the Al-Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas in Rafah, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip, completely destroying it.
Five shells were fired from Gaza toward Sderot and the western Negev. The ‘Iron Dome’ defense system intercepted four of them. The Israeli military fired a missile east of Jabalia
Israeli military correspondent Roni Daniel, with Channel Two News, said that the Israeli army is preparing for a large-scale offensive on Gaza – especially after it became convinced that the order to fire shells came from Damascus.
The spokesperson of the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, said, “The enemy [Israel] is lying — no missiles were fired from Gaza this evening. The Israeli Iron Dome system was alerted to live fired that was fired during Qassam training – not shells fired into Israel.”
Al Jazeera reported that the Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for firing the shells into Israel.

Israel’s war Minister Avigdor Lieberman (Yisrael Beytenu) threatened to wage a bloody war against Gaza at the start of a meeting of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
“Wars are only conducted when there is no choice, and now there is no choice,” the minister claimed on Monday. “Anything less than the toughest response won’t help anymore. We have exhausted the other options.”
Lieberman alleged that Hamas was behind recent violence from the blockaded Gaza Strip and pays large sums to protesters.
“There is no popular uprising,” Lieberman said. “There is violence organized by Hamas. Fifteen thousand people don’t come by foot to the border at their own will. They come by bus and are paid.”
“I don’t believe in reaching an arrangement with Hamas,” he said. “It hasn’t worked, doesn’t work and won’t work in the future.”
Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Avi Dichter (Likud) also accused Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas of inflaming tensions in the Gaza Strip by preventing supplies and funding from reaching the people there.
“It is intolerable, unacceptable and unreasonable that Abbas closes the faucet for Gaza and Israel has to pay the price,” Dichter said.
