The Palestinian Police is investigating the events that led to the serious injury of a Palestinian child near the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia, after reports surfaced indicating that the family might have fabricated the claim.
The Palestinian Authority said it is now conducting a thorough investigation in reports that indicate the child was injured while playing with a gun owned by a family member.
The Israeli army denied any involved in the incident, and said the family fabricated the claim of the Israeli involvement in an attempt to gain a stipend from the Palestinian Authority.

Hundreds of Israeli troops were searching for suspected Palestinian gunmen on Friday, after the killing of a settler couple between the illegal Israeli settlements of Itamar and Elon Moreh, near Nablus, in the northern West Bank, on Thursday evening.
A Ma'an reporter said dozens of Israeli army vehicles were stationed near the Palestinian town of Huwwara and searching vehicles in the area.
The Beit Furik military checkpoint north of the town was closed in both directions, with Palestinian residents prohibited from leaving. Residents told Ma'an that they had been waiting outside at the checkpoint all night to return to their homes.
Israeli soldiers reportedly told residents that the checkpoint was closed to prevent clashes with settlers, who had gathered at the other side of checkpoint and were threatening Palestinians. The Huwwara checkpoint was only open travelling north, with no Palestinian cars allowed through towards the southern West Bank.
Dozens of settlers protested at the Zatara checkpoint in southern Nablus chanting "Death to Arabs" and calling for a response to the killing of the two settlers, as Israeli armed forces were stationed nearby.
Settlers threw rocks at Palestinian vehicles in southern Nablus, witnesses said. Palestinian security sources said the Palestinian side of the Yitzhar-Nablus and Itamar-Alon Moreh roads would be closed to cars until further notice, with all access for Palestinians in and around Nablus highly restricted.
The Palestinian liaison office warned Palestinians not to use roads near Israeli settlements in the Nablus area, after receiving information about large crowds of settlers targeting cars near the Shilo and Yitzhar settlements, as well as the Huwwara and Zatara checkpoints.
Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon, who visited the attack site on Friday, said the army and security forces had been deployed "to place our hands on the murderers."
In remarks relayed by his office, Yaalon linked recent violence to unrest surrounding Al-Aqsa and also blamed what he termed "incitement" from Palestinian leaders, "especially (Abbas)." Hundreds of Israeli settlers rioted across the occupied West Bank, late Thursday, with multiple attacks reported on Palestinian homes and vehicles in the aftermath of the shooting.
A Palestinian car was set on fire near Ramallah and price-tag graffiti was sprayed on a nearby wall, while hundreds of settlers attempted to raid villages in the Nablus area and threw rocks at Palestinian cars, damaging at least 15, including an ambulance.
Israeli security forces were conducting an "intensive search" on the ground combined with intelligence efforts, said army spokesman Arye Shalicar.
The circumstances surrounding Thursday's attack remain unclear. A group purportedly linked to the Palestinian Fateh movement -- the Abdel Qader al-Husseini Brigades -- claimed responsibility, but this could not be immediately verified.
Eitam and Naama Henkin, both in their 30s, were killed while driving on Thursday night between the illegal settlements of Itamar and Elon More.
Their four children, aged between four months and nine years, were found unharmed in the back of the car.

The settlers closed the main road between Nablus and Ramallah, and prevented Palestinian cars from crossing.
Later, several Palestinian youths hurled stones and Molotov cocktails on a number of Israeli cars and military vehicles, before the soldiers removed the settlers due to the intensity of the clashes.
The sources said that Walid Khaled Qawwar, 35, from the ‘Aida refugee camp, north of Bethlehem, suffered shrapnel injuries, and was moved to a local hospital in Bethlehem in a moderate but stable condition.
The attack took place after a number of armed settlers gathered near the Gush Etzion settlement bloc, attacked several Palestinian cars and residents, and opened live fire.
Similar clashes took place near the al-Jalazoun refugee camp, in the central West Bank district of Ramallah, after dozens of Israelis gathered near the Beit El illegal colony, to protest the Thursday fatal shooting of a settler and his wife.

Israeli settlers set fire to dozens of olive trees on Palestinian agricultural land near the Nablus village of Burin, on Friday, as tensions remain high in the occupied West Bank following the killing of two settlers and reprisal attacks on Palestinian villages.
A Burin village committee member told Ma'an News Agency that a large group of settlers torched dozens of olive trees on land belonging to Um Ayman Sufian and attempted to set fire to her home.
A local guard committee set up by villagers to ward off attacks managed to prevent the settlers from burning the house.
Mahmoud Musleh, director of public relations in the Palestinian Civil Defense, said that firemen managed to extinguish the fire before it reached other homes in the village.
Settlers also set fire to land east of Burin village, he added.
In the nearby town of Huwwara, settlers set fire to dozens of dunams of agricultural land, a spokesperson from Fatah said. Awad Najm said firefighters were en route to the scene. Hundreds of Israeli settlers rioted across the occupied West Bank late Thursday, with multiple attacks reported on Palestinian homes and vehicles in the aftermath of the shooting of two Israeli settlers.
Eitam and Naama Henkin, both in their 30s, were shot while driving on Thursday night between the illegal settlements of Itamar and Elon More.
Their four children, aged between four months and nine years, were found unharmed in the back of the car.
Improving 'security for all Israeli citizens'
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed Thursday that Israeli security services would work to "capture the murderers and improve security for all Israeli citizens."
The Nablus area was on virtual lock-down overnight and hundreds of Israeli troops were searching for suspected Palestinian gunmen on Friday following the shooting.
Palestinians across the West Bank are readying to protect their towns and villages as reports of settlers gathering to seek revenge for the shooting continue.
In Huwwara, 200 settlers reportedly attempted to raid the town under the protection of Israeli soldiers Thursday night, while Palestinians used speakers from a mosque to mobilize villagers to resist the incursion.
Palestinian towns and villages in the Nablus area are surrounded by Israeli settlements and outposts, many of which are protected by the Israeli military and have gained notoriety for being comprised of the most extremist settlers.
The Palestinian government has no jurisdiction over Israelis in the West Bank, and violent acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli military forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.
Palestinians are therefore left to fend for themselves as few options for their personal security remain.
While Israeli forces will detain a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank for possessing a knife or gun, Israelis living in the same area are legally able to carry such weapons. Rights groups have criticized Israel for implementing different legal systems for Palestinians and Israeli settlers living in the same area.
Such practices, they say, protect the expansion of settlements while systematically removing the ability for Palestinians to move freely throughout the occupied territory.
In a speech at the funeral of the parents slain Thursday, Israeli president Reuven Rivlin reiterated Israel’s sovereignty over the West Bank and said that settlement construction would continue.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Thursday morning closed all the gates and entrances to the holy al-Aqsa Mosque, denying Muslim worshipers below the age of 50 the right to enter the holy site.
The Israeli occupation officers closed the al-Aqsa Mosque before the Muslim worshipers while providing a security shield to dozens of Israeli fanatics stationed at al-Aqsa Gates.
According to the head of manuscripts and heritage department at al-Aqa, Redwan Amr, the Israeli occupation soldiers have, since the early morning hours, cordoned off the al-Aqsa and its surroundings, banning Muslims below the age of 50 from entering the Mosque.
“Dozens of Israeli fanatics flocked to the entrances of the holy al-Aqsa Mosque and its vicinities in an attempt to pave the way for mass desecration break-ins,” the activist said.
He added that the Israeli occupation troops summoned reinforcement and intensified deployment at the Maghareba Gate in an attempt to secure the break-ins and crack down on the unarmed Muslim worshipers.
Amr said the fact that most of the entrance gates to al-Aqsa have been closed since the early morning hours is a manifestation of Israeli intents to divide the Mosque between the Muslim congregations and the Israeli fanatics, both spatially and temporally.
Over recent days, the occupation police and soldiers have come down heavily on the peaceful Muslim sit-inners and congregation at al-Aqsa Mosque—the third holiest site in Islam—in an attempt to hold sway over the Mosque and Judaize its typically Islamic identity.
