Hassan Abu Rmila, a 21-year-old Jerusalemite captive, has undergone many surgeries after he was shot by the Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) at Qalandia checkpoint to the north of Occupied Jerusalem last June under pretext that he was walking towards the checkpoint shouting Takbeer.
The IOF claims that warning shots were fired in the air and that Abu Rmila didn't obey the soldiers' orders to stop.
The captive's family affirmed on Monday to Quds Press that one of Hassan's kidneys was removed after one lung stopped functioning while his feet were paralyzed as a result of being shot in his spinal cord.
"He is still in a coma, he sustained serious injuries, and his health condition, which is already very critical, is deteriorating," the family said, and added that he is under arrest and his legs are tied to the bed, despite his condition, at Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Medical Center.

Israeli soldiers last Thursday targeted journalists working for Jordan's Ro'ya TV with teargas while they were covering a peaceful Palestinian demonstration near Jaba, a village north of Jerusalem.
According to WAFA correspondence, the demonstration was held to mark the first anniversary of the death of Muhammad Abu Khdeir, a 16-year-old Palestinian who was burnt to death in a wood near West Jerusalem. Ro'ya TV posted a video online showing Palestinian Territories bureau chief Nebal Farsakh and cameraman Mohamed Shousha being targeted although they were wearing bulletproof vests marked 'Press.' They were taken to a hospital with facial burns. |
Alexandra El Khazen, the head of the Reporters without Borders Middle East and Maghreb desk said, “The Israeli security forces must respect the physical integrity of journalists who are just doing their job by covering demonstrations.”
“We remind them that the UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in March 2014 recognizing that journalists play an essential role by covering protests.”
The incident was not the first time Israeli forces target journalists in recent months. On May 17, Israeli police used force to prevent a crew with Russian TV station RT from filming during Jerusalem Day, which commemorates Israel's conquest of East Jerusalem and the Old City during the 1967 War.
Although they had accreditation, RT reporter Dalia Nammari and cameraman Muhammad Aishuwere were manhandled and their camera was broken. They have filed a complaint.
Nidal Ashtiyeh, a Palestinian photojournalist working for the Chinese news agency Xinhua, was covering a Palestinian demonstration near Nablus on May 15 marking the 67th anniversary of the Nakba when he was badly injured in an eye by a rubber-coated bullet fired by an Israeli soldier. He has not yet recovered his sight in the eye and needs to receive special treatment.
The Israel army also stopped a peaceful demonstration by the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate in the West Bank city of Bethlehem on May 2 (the eve of World Press Freedom Day). The demonstrators had planned to march from the edge of the city to an army checkpoint but were stopped by teargas and flash grenades.
B’Tselem, an Israeli human rights group, says, “This type of abusive behavior has gradually become a part of everyday reality for Palestinians of the occupied territories. On occasion there are also cases of more serious violence, which Israeli authorities condemn but often do not take real measures against the perpetrators.”
“Most cases involve a 'small dose' of ill-treatment such as a slap, a kick, an insult, a pointless delay at checkpoints, or degrading treatment. These acts have become an integral part of Palestinian life in the Occupied Territories. From time to time, however, cases of severe brutality occur.”

Tension rose in Occupied Jerusalem and the area surrounding the checkpoint to Qalandia refugee camp after the news of al-Kasaba’s murder, shot dead by the Israeli army, became public.
Local sources reported heavy deployment by the Israeli police and army in the aftermath of the IOF’s shooting of the 17 year old Hani al-Kasaba in anticipation of the outbreak of angry confrontations during the young man’s funeral after Friday prayers today.
An atmosphere of extreme anger, translated into youths throwing stones intermittently at the military checkpoint, burst out in Qalandiya. The protests were, however, hampered by the presence of an enormous number of people flowing into Occupied Jerusalem to attend Friday prayers.
According to Hebrew sources, an Israeli military jeep driving by al-Ram township was pelted with stones as dozens of young men, including al-Kasaba, attempted to climb the wall into Jerusalem and attend Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque. Soldiers from the jeep then disembarked and opened fire, resulting in al-Kasaba’s death.
Al-Kasaba was shot at half past seven on Friday morning as he attempted to scale the wall and subsequently fell from a great height. Israeli soldiers did not attend to him and he was left seriously injured until a group of citizens took him by private car to the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah where, after a long attempt by doctors to save his life, he was later pronounced dead.
Medics announced the death of Mohammed Hani al-Kasaba, 17, from the Qalandia refugee camp near al-Ram town north of Jerusalem, during his attempt to enter Jerusalem to pray at Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Following the deadly shooting of a Palestinian teen by Israeli army fire, earlier Friday, dozens of youths clashed with the soldiers near the Qalandia terminal, north of occupied East Jerusalem.
The Israeli army said one of its soldiers was injured in her head by a glass bottle, during clashes near the Qalandia refugee camp.
The soldiers also fired rounds of live ammunition, tear gas bombs and concussion grenades at the protesters, causing several injuries.
The slain Palestinian, Muhammad Hani al-Kasba, 17, was shot dead, approximately at 7:30 in the morning, as he was climbing the Annexation Wall, in an attempt to reach the Al-Aqsa Mosque for Friday prayers.
An Israeli commander shot the Palestinian teen in the back, causing him to fall from a high altitude; al-Kasba died in the Palestine Medical Center in Ramallah.
On Thursday at night, Israeli soldiers invaded Awarta village, in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and kidnapped two Palestinians.
