Noted Palestinian figures have condemned an Israeli court in Occupied Jerusalem for allowing Jewish settlers to chant “Am Yisrael Chai,” which means the people of Israel live or are alive in Hebrew, at the Aqsa Mosque compound.
Sheikh Najah Bukairat, director of education at the Aqsa Mosque, told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that all Israeli practices inside the Mosque are considered reprehensible acts of bullying, stressing that the Islamic holy site is not subject to Israeli laws or court verdicts.
For his part, researcher Jama Amr, a specialist in the history of Jerusalem and Aqsa, said that such Israeli step was aimed at responding to the Muslims’ religious chant “Allahu Akbar,” which means God is the greatest in Arabic.
He warned that the Israeli occupation tries to pave the way for its control over the Aqsa Mosque, describing the court decision as “extremely serious.”
The Jerusalem magistrate court ruled Monday that it is permitted for Jewish visitors to the Aqsa Mosque compound to shout “Am Yisrael chai” (The people of Israel live) at the pretext that it is a patriotic slogan rather than a prayer.
The court made its ruling in the case of Itamar Ben Gvir, a right-wing activist and lawyer who was removed from the site by the Israeli police in September 2015 and detained for a few hours at the time after shouting out the slogan.

Israeli forces, Wednesday, physically assaulted three Palestinian journalists during clashes that broke out in al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of the southern West Bank district of Hebron, said security sources.
Sources told WAFA Israeli soldiers physically assaulted three journalists while they were covering confronatations that erupted near the Palestine technical college, near the camp.
The journalists were identified as Mohammad Halayqa, Mus’ab Shawar, and Sari Jaradat. Meanwhile, two Palestinian youth were reportedly detained during the clashes.
Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian students on their way home from school in al-Salaymeh neighborhood in the Old City district of Hebron, in the southern West Bank, local sources also reported, according to WAFA.
The settlers physically attacked students and used foul language against them, but no injuries were reported.
Israeli forces also attacked high school students from al-Sawiya al-Lubban high school, to the south of Nablus, with pepper spray, causing a number of them to suffocate, said a local official.
Ghassan Daghlas, who monitors settlement activities in northern West Bank district, said that Israeli soldiers sprayed students with pepper spray while they were heading back home from school.
Several students suffered from suffocation, including one case that necessitated transfer to hospital for medical treatment.

Three Palestinian villages wake up to sweeping property damage and racist graffiti.
In the early morning on April 17, 2018, dozens of armed settlers attacked the neighboring Palestinian villages of al-Lubban al-Sharqiya and al-Sawiya in the West Bank district of Nablus.
The settlers slashed the tires of 30 Palestinian owned cars and broke their windows. They spray painted cars and walls with racist graffiti, including the phrases “expel or kill,” “enough with administrative detention orders,” and “God is king.” The settlers also wrote “Price Tag” – a settler term used in reference to attacks that are staged against Palestinians with the intent of terrifying them so deeply that they flee their homes.
Eyewitnesses said that the settlers would not have been able to vandalize the villages without the collaboration of Israeli soldiers. Since soldiers surround the roads leading to the villages, locals point out, the settlers could not have entered without their knowledge and approval.
Indeed, soldiers have been intensively raiding the village in recent weeks. Moreover, the Palestinian News and Info Agency reports that despite such spectacular property damage, no soldiers or any kind of Israeli officials have attempted to investigate the incident.
A similar attack took place in the same area less than a week ago. On April 13, 2018, two settlers attempted to burn down Sheikh Saada Mosque and vandalized it with racist graffiti in Aqraba village in the Nablus district.
The settlers were captured on surveillance cameras dousing the entrance to the Mosque with lighter fluid, setting it on fire, and then fleeing the scene.
The Mosque was saved thanks to dozens of locals who stopped the fire. The entrance to the Mosque, however, was damaged. The words “death” and “price tag” were also spray painted on the Mosque.
Palestinian Minister of Religious Affairs Yousef Adeis called the attack against the Mosque part of an overall Israeli assault against Muslims and Christians in Palestine. He added that this is the consequence of a campaign of systematic incitement against religious sites, such as al-Aqsa and Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron.
Human rights activists said the settlers continue to escalate attacks against Palestinians because the Israeli occupation authority grants them complete impunity.
The recent attacks, which occurred days apart and in the same area, has created a state of anxiety in the villages in the southern area of the Nablus district.

POSTED BY: AMALYA DUBROVSKY APRIL 17, 2018 Israeli police supervised the seizure, which displaced 13 members of the Ruweidi family. Israeli police assisted colonial settlers seize a Palestinian-owned building in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan on April 8, 2018. The Ruweidi family lived in and owns the building, which consists of three apartments. |
Over 13 members of the family are now homeless.
“We are barred from entering [our homes], but the settlers and their guards are inside the houses,” Mahmoud Ruweidi told the Wadi Hilweh Information Center.
Prior to the seizure of the building, Israeli police closed the roads leading to it. Israeli forces then confiscated the Ruweidi family’s cellphones and oversaw settlers empty the building of its furniture and change the locks.
When members of the family resisted the sudden takeover, Israeli forces responded with physical violence. The Ruweidis’ belongings are now scattered in a nearby courtyard, exposed to the elements.
An Israeli court sanctioned the Ruweidis’ forced displacement in February when it ruled in favor of Elad, a settler group that claims one deceased member of the family sold it the three apartments.
The Ruweidis appealed the court decision and secured a court order postponing a settler takeover until April 15, 2018. They consequently had no warning settlers would confiscate their homes with the help of Israeli police a week earlier.
Israeli settlement watch group Peace Now reports that the police continue to guard the home around the clock while settlers move in furniture. In the last two years, Elad has seized ten Palestinian properties in Silwan.

A group of Israeli settlers forced on Tuesday a number of Palestinian farmers to leave their agricultural land in Madama town to the south of Nablus, northern West Bank.
Eyewitnesses reported that more than 20 settlers stormed the town under the protection of Israeli army and attacked local farmers while working in their farms.
During the settlers’ attack, Israeli forces fired heavy teargas bombs at the farmers and prevented them from ploughing their land.
An upwards of some 700,000 Israeli settlers reside in occupied Palestinian territory in violation of international law. The international community has repeatedly called their presence and rising population the main impediment to potential peace in the region.

The West Bank at daybreak Tuesday witnessed a series of attacks carried out by Israeli settlers on Palestinian property, while other campaigns were launched by the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) into different provinces where a number of Palestinians were arrested.
The PIC reporter said that the IOF arrested the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine leader Husam al-Rozza after raiding his house in Nablus.
Local sources reported that a large Israeli force stormed al-Makhfiya neighborhood west of Nablus and arrested al-Rozza who previously accused Israel of killing his daughter while she was in Ramallah in March.
Eyewitnesses told the PIC reporter that violent clashes erupted between Palestinian youths and IOF soldiers after the latter broke into Joseph's Tomb in Nablus.
Other clashes broke out in the eastern area of Nablus city after scores of Israeli settlers broke into Tal Balata archaeological site.
Anti-settlement official Ghassan Daghlas said that a group of Israeli settlers at dawn sneaked into al-Lubban ash-Sharqiya town south of Nablus, punctured the tires of 30 vehicles, spray-painted hostile slogans that have the name of Price Tag gang on the walls of Palestinian houses, destroyed the gate of a mosque and attempted to burn it.
This attack came a few days after a Price Tag group burned a mosque in Aqraba town south of Nablus.
In another context, a Palestinian youth was arrested while many others were injured during clashes in Burqin town west of Jenin.
Local sources told the PIC reporter that dozens of IOF soldiers raided the town and arrested the Palestinian citizen Khaled Qiblawi after raiding and searching his house.
The sources added that violent clashes broke out in the town during which the IOF soldiers heavily fired tear gas canisters.
Local sources from Jenin reported that a group of Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian citizen who was riding his car near Silat ad-Dhahr town, smashed the car's windows and attempted to assault him but he fled the area.
Meanwhile in Qalqilya, the PIC reporter said that the IOF arrested three minors during a raid and search campaign launched in Azzun town at dawn.

Pictures posted on social media networks show a group of Israeli settlers standing at military watchtowers overseeing Gaza borders, laughing and cheering as Israeli snipers gun down peaceful protesters.
In snapshots taken from Nahal Oz settlement, east of the blockaded Gaza Strip, and published on Twitter by Israel’s Channel 2 correspondent, Israeli settlers appear to bust into hysterical laughter as unarmed protesters on the Gaza border are fatally shot and injured by the Israeli military.
The correspondent commented on the pictures as follows: “The best show in the country ever. . . Nahal Oz settlers standing on the hillside”.
The photos sparked widespread condemnation on social media.
The Middle East Monitor newspaper said the pictures come at a time when the Palestinians have been striving to heal their wounds after 35 were killed and thousands wounded in Israeli aggressions on the Great March of Return protests.
The newspaper also said that Israeli occupation forces used strange and unknown gases against unarmed, peaceful protesters on Gaza borders.
Unmanned drones were used to drop the gas on the demonstrators. The gases caused protesters’ bodies to convulse and tremble. Many lost consciousness.

The mayor of Sebastia Mohammed Azem, told WAFA that a number of settlers, broke into the site amid the protection by the army, who closed the area for any other visitors.
He added that confrontations broke out in the area, following the visit, while Israeli soldiers fired teargas towards the protesters.
Azem pointed out that the town is constantly attacked by the occupation and settlers, especially with the approach of a national festival in the town that will be organized by the municipality next Friday, and will be held in the archaeological area.
In a separate incident, two Israeli settlers, in the early Monday morning hours, have reportedly damaged a grave in Bab Al-Rahma historic Islamic cemetery, adjacent to the eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, defiling it.
According to media reports, the settlers were screaming racist slogans, insults and hatred while they were attacking the grave.
PNN notes that Israeli occupation, and many of its organizations continue to target this cemetery, after having cut off a big part along the Al-Aqsa wall; to found the “National Park” project which would eventually stop burial of Muslim Jerusalemites in the cemetery.

Israeli fanatic settlers escorted by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Monday hoisted Israeli flags over al-Haram al-Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil city as well as on the western wall of the holy site.
This came in celebration of the so called the Israeli "Independence Day" which is remembered as the Nakba 70th anniversary by Palestinians.
The head of the Islamic Waqf (Endowment) Department in al-Khalil, Ismail Abu al-Halawa, told Quds Press that this violation goes in line with the Israeli policies and plans for Judaizing and taking over the holy shrine.
For his part, Palestinian Waqf and Religious Affairs Minister Sheikh Yusef Edais said that the recent escalation of Israeli crimes against Islamic holy places is warning of dire consequences.
He stressed that the Islamic sacred places are for Muslims only and that the Palestinian people will always confront the Israeli attempts to impose a status quo over the Islamic holy sites.
