Firebrand Arab MK talks about the suffering in Gaza and calls for boycott of Knesset members, while proposing a bill to benefit female MKs; 'responsibility for the suffering of the women in the Gaza Strip lies solely with Israel,' she charges.
Joint List MK Hanin Zoabi was forcefully removed of a Knessent plenary discussion Wednesday after she condemned IDF soldiers and called them "murderers."
Zoabi was presenting a bill proposal to provide additional funding to political parties with a high number of female members.
“After Monday's meeting at the Committee on the Status of Women (about the situation of women in Gaza—ed.), I wondered why this proposal was necessary, since it would bring us more female MKs who are just as insensitive to injustice and oppression as their male counterparts," she said at the outset of her remarks.
“MKs from the Left are actually those who wish to privatize the suffering and disconnect the cause from the effect ... The responsibility for the suffering of the women in the Gaza Strip lies solely with Israel. After Israel destroyed the infrastructure and the agriculture in Gaza, it dictates to the people there how and where to eat,” she added in rage.
Zoabi went on with her charge. “You all should be boycotted. The people in Gaza are refugees, their land is in Israel. Those murdered by the soldiers are not being accounted for. Democracy is a nightmare in the Knesset,” she accused.
Zoabi refused to step down from the podium after her time to speak has passed, ignoring three calls for her to do so, and was consequently ushered out.
Minister of Tourism Yariv Levin, slammed Zoabi for her remarks. “We witnessed here another speech full of hate and incitement that would not have been allowed in a parliament anywhere in the world," he asserted.
"The only reason she’s here is because the High Court has cancelled the Central Elections Committee's decision to ban her in order to avoid this disgrace from happening in the Knesset again," Levin claimed. “This has opened the gates for all traitors and supporters of terrorism."
"I suggest that rather than yelling at MK Zoabi, we should finally fix the real issue since because of that, all of this is happening here—in the judicial system," he added.
“Her proposal is the height of hypocrisy. How many female MKs are there in the Joint List Party? How many women are in the United Arab List and in the Islamic Movement? A bunch of hypocrites. So as long as you’re getting paid for it, having women is good? A woman is simply a currency,” he concluded.
Under Zoabi’s proposal, a faction that has at least one woman for every three people on its Knesset elections list would be eligible for a 15 percent increase in funding.
During the vote, 44 MKs supported the proposal, while two opposed and 33 abstained.

Rami Wahid Hasan Sabarna, 36
Israeli soldiers killed, Saturday, a Palestinian worker in Hebron, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank, while he and other workers were conducting work for the Hebron City Council to rehabilitate and expand a road near the Ibrahimi Mosque.
The Health Ministry in Hebron said the soldiers fatally shot Rami Wahid Hasan Sabarna, 36, in Jaber neighborhood in the Old City, near the military roadblock leading to the Ibrahimi Mosque.
It added that the soldiers also stopped a Palestinian ambulance at the scene, and prevented the medics from approaching the Palestinian, before he bled to death.
An Israeli ambulance later arrived, before its medics placed Rami’s body in a black bag and took it away.
The army claimed that the Palestinian worker “attempted to ram the soldiers with his vehicle, before they shot him,” an allegation which was denied by eyewitnesses, who said the young man was just working, and did not attempt to attack the soldiers, or harm them in any way.
Aref Jaber, a local nonviolent activist against the Annexation Wall and Colonies, who lives near the area where the army killed the worker, said Sabarna was driving a small and loud bulldozer, and added that the worker passed by some soldiers who then started shouting at him an ordering him to stop.
“He did not pose any threat to them, he passed by them and could not hear their shouts and orders,” Aref said, “Then, they just opened fire at him and his bulldozer, seriously wounded him, before removing him from his vehicle and left him to bleed on the ground.
When Red Crescent medics arrived, the soldiers prevented them from providing Sabarna with the urgently needed treatment, and he bled to death, before the soldiers placed his corpse in a black plastic bag and took him away.” video
The soldiers also removed media outlets from the area, and prevented the journalist from performing their duties.

An Israeli army spokesman claimed in a statement that a Palestinian man attempted to run over Israeli soldiers in al-Khalil before he was shot dead. No casualties were reported among the soldiers.
Earlier reports said that the young man was shot by an Israeli settler.
The Palestinian Red Crescent society said that the IOF prevented its crews from reaching the injured man to save his life.
Safa news agency reported, quoting activist Mohammed Awad, that the IOF shot Rami Sabarneh, 35, near a military checkpoint in Jaber neighborhood in al-Khalil while he was riding a bulldozer.
Awad said that Sabarneh works for a construction company and he is a father of two children.

The United States has used its veto power, Friday, against a draft resolution at the United Nations, calling for providing protection to the Palestinian People, living under illegal Israeli occupation.
The Veto came after the resolution was backed by 10 counties at the UN Security Council.
The resolution was sponsored by Kuwait; it requires nine votes to be adopted by the 15-member council, and was voted for by ten countries, including Russia, China and France.
Four counties, including Britain, abstained while the United States, the only country that opposed it, used its Veto power to topple the resolution.
The draft resolution denounced the Israeli military escalation against the Palestinian people, and the use of “excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminate force” by the army, and also criticized the “firing of shells from Gaza into civilian areas in Israel.”
Nikki Haley, the United States Envoy to the United Nations, said Washington rejects the resolution because it represents “support of Hamas,” while the Kuwaiti Envoy Mansour al-Qtaibi, said rejecting the resolution reveals that Israel is a state that considers itself above International Law, with direct U.S. support.
It is worth mentioning that the UN Security Council also rejected a draft resolution presented by the United States “condemning Hamas,” and holding its responsible for the escalation in Gaza; the United states was the only country that voted for its own draft.
The Permanent Palestinian Representative at the United Nations, Ambassador Riyad Mansour, said the Palestinians reject the US amendment to the Kuwaiti draft, because was hostile to the Palestinian people, and only aims at protecting Israel.
Meanwhile in Gaza, Israeli soldiers killed, Friday, a young Palestinian woman, identified as Razan Ashraf Najjar, 22, who worked as a volunteer medic with the Palestinian Medical Relief Society, and injured 100 Palestinians, including 40 with live fire.
Her death brings the number of Palestinians, killed by Israeli army fire in the Gaza Strip since March 30th, to 119, including 13 children, while more than 13400 have been injured, including 330 who suffered life-threatening wounds.
