Israeli soldiers assaulted, Friday, dozens of nonviolent Palestinian protesters, marching in solidarity with the hunger-striking Palestinian detainees, in Rafat village, northwest of occupied East Jerusalem, causing many to suffer the effects of teargas inhalation.
Just as the protesters reached close to the fence that separates the village from the Oder Israeli military base and detention center, the soldiers started firing dozens of gas bombs at them, causing many to suffer the severe effects of teargas inhalation.
The procession was organized by Palestinian factions and various social and human rights groups, as part of ongoing activities in solidarity with the hunger striking Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons, who started their strike five days ago, demanding basic human rights, rights guaranteed by International Law and all related resolutions and treaties.
Qaddoura Fares, the head of the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) stated during a speech during the procession that it was held near Ofer Israeli prison to send a message of support and solidarity with the detainees, facing ongoing and escalating Israeli violations.
On his part, Dr. Mustafa Barghouthi, the head of the Palestinian National Initiative, stated that the detainees, including detained leaders Marwan Barghouthi and Ahmad Sa’adat, are risking their lives for the freedom and dignity of their people.
Dr. Barghouthi also called for ongoing popular resistance against the occupation in every part of occupied Palestine, and for supporting the movement of Boycott, Divestments and Sanctions (BDS) in every part of the world, to force Israel to end its violations.
Lawyer Fadwa Barghouthi, the wife of Marwan Barghouthi, said that Israel launched an extensive campaign of abuse and violations against the detainees since the first day of the hunger strike, and started transferring detained leaders and figures to various prisons, in addition to forcing many in solitary confinement, in an attempt to end the strike, but was faced by the strong will and determination of the detainees, while more are also gradually joining the strike.
She added that Israel is also denying the striking detainees their basic rights, including visits with their own lawyers.

The Israeli occupation soldiers opened fire at a disabled Palestinian young woman though she posed no threat to them, a human rights report revealed Friday.
Legal adviser on Israeli violations, lawyer Naela Atiya, urged the Israeli Internal Security Minister to launch an immediate probe into a shooting attack targeting the disabled Palestinian girl Manar Mujahed, aged 30, that left her paralyzed.
According to Atiyeh, Israeli border cops opened fire at mentally-disabled Manar, from Occupied Jerusalem, on February 27, 2017, leaving her bleeding and crying for help as she rushed to her father to save her.
“Her father, a bus driver, was parking near the military checkpoint where Manar was shot. He saw her from afar and did not recognize her at first sight,” the lawyer said.
Moments later, the Israeli soldiers handcuffed the bleeding girl with iron chains at the hospital, where they found out that she was mentally disabled. Manar went back home on a wheelchair, after her health condition had taken a turn for the worse. She has become physically disabled and cannot stand on her feet as a result of the bullets that penetrated her thigh and hip.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) at dawn Friday stormed the towns of at-Tayba, Rummanah and Zububa, west of Jenin city in the West Bank, interrogated citizens and set up roadblocks.
Local sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that Israeli soldiers interrogated citizens and raided homes in at-Tayba town.
They added that the IOF erected barriers on a road between the towns of at-Tayba and Rummanah, intercepted cars, checked IDs of passengers and questioned some of them.
An Israeli military force was also seen combing the open area near the separation wall in Zububa town and another one set up a checkpoint on a road leading to al-Fahmah village in the vicinity of Zahrat al-Fanjan landfill, south of Jenin.
In a separate incident, a group of Palestinian young men on Thursday night hurled stones at Israeli cars boarded by Jewish settlers as they were driving on a main road near Azzun town, east of Qalqilya city.
Local sources told the PIC that the young men threw stones at settlers’ cars near the town and caused material damage to some of them.
Consequently, the Israeli occupation army closed the northern entrance to Azzun town and blocked the Azzun-Jayyous road before spreading across nearby areas and embarking on brutalizing local residents.
Azzun town is considered one of the West Bank flashpoints because of the presence of illegal settlements surrounding it from three sides and its exposure to constant attacks by settlers and soldiers.
